I know this is the Hennessy thread, but as there’s not one for the 1.30 at Newbury I thought I’d
bring up that there’s a bit of movement in the market on Generous Ransom.Yeah Graham, on at 10’s, there was plenty of 11’s on Oddschecker when I came in from work earlier, but each time I clicked on it, it had shortened to 10’s, but happy enough with that price. Happy to split my stake with him and Antony, who I caught last time out, so hopeful of a good show from the pair of them. I think Warriors Tale at 12’s in the same race is big as well.
[/quote]
I looked at him when the books opened and saw him at 12’s, hummed and arghed and missed the price.I put him in a little yankee on the TV races for a bit of sport. Hopefully Antony runs well also, not backed him but it feels like i have
Cancel that could not resist Antony @ 7’s to win
November 26, 2016 at 07:27 #1274229With it being almost GOOD ground doesn’t look as open as usual to me.
Saphir De Rheu is about the only established chaser who’s reasonably handicapped, but rarely finds much under pressure and others are unexposed. So SDR is unlikely to be able to win without needing to show bottle.
Yes it looks that way but it also sounds like he had a breathing issue last year
” He was stopping abruptly in his races, so we gave him a soft-palate operation, and I hope a nice summer break will have helped. All I can say is I’ll be disappointed if last season is as good as he is ”
Cue Card had a similar problem where he was cruising and then just stopped as if he had been shot.
November 26, 2016 at 10:14 #1274261GT I’d have fancied Smad to run a big race but I think soft ground is very important to him these days.
Is this just a hunch because there isn’t really anything in the form book to support that idea?
Prior to last year’s win he had won at Kempton over a shorter trip. He bombed in the Gold Cup but that was a much stiffer ask and he probably wasn’t at his best. Nothing much wrong with his seasonal debut, again over an inadequate test.
I think it is much more important to his chances to get into a nice jumping rhythm, somewhere near the front.
I suppose you could call it a hunch. To my eye he just seems to go with significantly more relish on soft/heavy ground. Witness his performance here last year and at Cheltenham in January (as to the form book – they were both at least 10 lbs above anything else he’s done on RPRs).
GT, he ran well at Aintree, but there’s such a difference here in distance and where he makes it count is keeping going when it’s deep as all else flounders. I like the horse an awful lot and in no way wish to disparage him. As to HA, no his jumping probably is not good enough on the face of it and he’d be a risky bet, but I’ve had a couple of quid just in case.
November 26, 2016 at 10:50 #1274276I’ve gone for Theatre Guide and Vicente (both 18/1 EW). Colin Tizzard was very positive about the chances of Theatre Guide and I think he had a good run as a top weight earlier this season. Vicente had a good season last year in which in most races he carried more weight than his opponents. I’m only worried that the pace will be too high for him.
November 26, 2016 at 12:09 #1274305NATIVE RIVER 6/1 and SMAD PLACE 10/1 ew [6 places skybet] for me . I prefer to see Smad face good ground rather than slugging top weight on bottomless. Win or lose its great to see bookies offering such great concessions these days, NRNB , BOG AND 6 PLACES . We have never had it so good lol .
November 26, 2016 at 13:15 #1274321Finally decided to go with Blaklion.
RSA form might be questionable with what happened to NMH and MOT but still takes a good horse to win it and should go well off 11st.Looking back now it wasn’t a bad first run in the Charlie Hall either as he raced prominently throughout.
Vincente looks the danger to me.
November 26, 2016 at 15:49 #1274333Double Ross once again rewarding his most loyal followers with the run of a lifetime. Never been so excited while watching a Hennessy!
Well done to all who backed the winner.
November 26, 2016 at 16:02 #1274334Away from home with an iPad that’s even worse than my computer at home so only just managed to get my Double Ross ew on;will have to give up on my other cliff horse, Beast of Burden, though. Anyone going to Kelso next week, by the way?
November 26, 2016 at 16:07 #1274335Where’s Joe?
November 26, 2016 at 16:14 #1274338A profit on the race having backed Native River back in mid October ( Hills went biggest at 16s ) and i think VDR scraped in to 6th to get me a place with Skybet.
What a run from Double Ross – i thought various garments of clothing or feet were going to be swallowed at one stage in the home straight.
NR not a Gold Cup horse but he’s worth a run in the National and that World Hurdle bid is interesting…
November 26, 2016 at 16:15 #1274339WELL DONE ALL THE Native River fans!! TOP STUFF!!
I must say it looked beat about four out but he is a lazy old sod who just does enough!!November 26, 2016 at 16:17 #1274340Really got away with this, and made a nice profit on the “mini book”, mainly thanks to Saphir Du Rheu, and Vyta Du Roc, who I made a nice few quid off of. Down overall on the race with my bets with the books, and my Hennessy/Gold Cup Double’s, but enjoy doing this, and good when it comes off. I managed to make a profit on Monksland, and I’m not sure why, but was comfortably able to lay Wounded Warrior for a profit yesterday morning, even with the news he wasn’t going. I made pennies off the others.
With the money I made on the “mini book”, I added Double Ross at 240’s to 250’s. He’s consistently underrated, and I think he could just surprise.
If I was starting from scratch, I’d like to be with Smad Place, Vicente, and Blaklion, but should Smad Place win, I won’t complain.
Left with……
Native River 16’s
Saphir Du Rheu 25’s ewTriolo D’Alene 100’s to 150’s
Hadrians Approach 90’s to 140’s
Double Ross 240’s to 250’sAny one of those 3, would be most welcome.
Venture, that is marvellous stuff at those prices, 1, 2, 4, and a great early bet with Native River. I hope you had Ross + Hadrian each way as well.
I thought I read you had priced up your Native River in the double for The Gold Cup, but can’t see it?? I might have dreamt it maybe.
I had to be with Triolo out of the big priced ones didn’t I grrrr
November 26, 2016 at 16:55 #1274345Well done to all on Native River, he looks tough as nails. Well done Bobby with your book, you must
have come out of that smiling

November 26, 2016 at 18:03 #1274359Am here, Gord, hope you kept my humble pie warm :)
Tis as well I wasn’t home. I rarely lay horses but would have laid that until the cows come home at 7/2. Fair play to the horse – never seen him so willing. He put in a superb round and I must revise my opinion; he’s obviously very talented indeed.
Great race for you, Bobby – inspired punting. Well done and well done all NR backers – “You’re a better man than I am Gunga Din”
Looks like Tizz will blow Mullins, Gigginstown and Nicholls out of the Gold Cup water as he’ll have at least 50% of the first six in the betting. What a man!
November 26, 2016 at 19:23 #1274373Am here, Gord, hope you kept my humble pie warm

Oh Joe the TAPK of old would slaughter you for that assessment of a horse but I respect your opinion far more than I used too..
