Ricci did qualify that by saying he was the same at this time last year, then, only late on, he came to himself. But the vibes have not been positive, and the reality is that Willie should have learned more about the horse’s prep from last year when he said he thought he was never going to come right and he had to put a monstrous amount of work into him.

I wonder if he regrets now not giving him another run.

Kelso has been abandoned today, leaving Many Clouds without his prep run for the National. Any reason why he won’t come back here? He still holds an entry and it didn’t work out too bad last year!

The over-priced horse of the race for sure Peter..Many Clouds never ran his race in last years Gold cup and still didn’t disgrace himself..He’s been 140’s on the machine and is now still massive at 55’s.A line through both ‘Don Poli’ and ‘Smad place’ say he’s the e/w bet of the race even on the high st he’s 33/1…I’ve taken all those prices and will hope he runs 2nd to Cue Card.

Hope you’re keeping an account of all these bets you’re having that probably won’t run Gord. I agree that if turning up “55” will be a big price, but that is a big IF. Sherwood said this morning Many Clouds is unlikely to go for the Gold Cup. Price only looks “massive” because it takes in to account the chance of not getting a run for your money. Trainer struggled to get Many Clouds to Aintree last year after running at Cheltenham. This time around there’s a week shorter gap! They’d be mad to go for the Gold Cup.

I must admit the horse I want to back in this is Vautour

he’s the one who has the potential to blow the race apart

of course Don Cossack, Don Poli etc also have their appeals

but Vautour on spring ground? We could just be watching on in awe B-)

Bit disappointed how this race has turned out; at the beginning of the season it looked like the race of the century, Coneygree, Djakadam, Road to Riches (who all looked far superior to the S Conti, Bobswirth, L Windermere generation) against the new breed, Vautour, Don Poli, Don Cossack.
But one by one theore reps ahave been tarnished. Coneygree injured, Djakadam + Don Cossack falling, Vauour beaten by an old-stager, Don Poli

Why has Don Poli’s rep been tarnished?

And I don’t think Vatour being beaten in the King George has exactly had his rep tarnished either.

Still shaping up to be a great race.

None of the mentioned horses has achieved at Cheltenham as much as the old-stager:
a Festival bumper winner, a Supreme 4th to Al Ferof, Spirit Son and Sprinter Sacre, an Arkle 2nd behind Sprinter Sacre and a Ryanair win. Now he is getting more oxygen, which isn’t bad, and is unbeaten this season.
None of the rest gets anywhere near his achievements…..

True but can’t see Cue Card getting up the hill in a strongly run 3 mile two race- could be wrong though.

Thats rich coming from you ya cheeky sossage! I have backed a total of 5 horses from an Ante-Post field of over a 100 entries in the past year, that is a mere 5% of runners..You will have backed 50% of a field of 14 horses come the day itself.I have lost a total of £300 at the moment on 3 Non-runners for the race.If Many Clouds was to win I would show a £2k profit on the race purely because of the huge prices I have to small stakes. However if Cue Card wins…If! I mean when Cue Card wins I will show a profit of almost £5k thats because I have him in doubles to win the King George aswell as 14/1 down.Sadly I missed the really big prices on Joes horse.Just remember TAPK historically wins the Gold cup every 2 years and I lost last year B-)
