I can see the argument for Nichols canyon because many people say he would be FAV If you can forgive one run. That may be the case since he did beat faugheen, however, the race he beat faugheen I believe was not a good performance from either faugheen or NC because Wicklow was so close to them. So for me I’d have to forgive NC 2 runs and I can’t do that. Can’t have AP purely because what horse can be aimed at a world hurdle and then consider winning a champion hurdle after a less than perfect preparation.
Personally think Henderson will win it but again impossible to decide which one.
Peace and Co could be the best of his if fulfilling his potential in what will b better ground for him and a better pace in the race which will suit.
MTOY I believe would win this if as good as 2 years ago but that’s nearly an impossible task
Hargam is my dark horse- I still think improve for good ground which he hasn’t ever really had.
Top notch – I believe is just short of top notch

Henderson is adamant that if the ground was good Hargam would beat his other runners but maybe that is me clutching at straws cos I am on at 33/1 and 25/1 !!

That’s a pretty confident shout regarding Sempre Medici, Zarkava, although can’t have it myself. Been put in it’s place by Nichols Canyon. With you on Camping Ground – 25s is pretty tasty, but a rain dance might be required. With NRNB it’s the bet that appeals most in the race, weather permitting.

Wasn’t over 2m + came after he’d run in the County off 11-10 and then at Fairyhouse when he put up a monster performance, so was probably pretty tired. He’s also a slow improving horse like Arctic Fire/Thousand Stars. Arctic Fire got beat 17L by The Tullow Tank in his novice season.

I love Annie Power; thsi should have been her race 2 yrs ago (or maybe UDS’s race). But since then she’s acheived little, and even with the mare’s allowance I think it’s a big ask, So may go for an outsider, Top Notch or Sempre Medici. Hope I’m wrong tho
PS would have loved to see here over fences

Must admit fancied hargam at the prices but thought he’d be about 33-1 and peace and co would be around 8s- just checked and hargam is 20-1 with peace and co 16-1

Peace and co incredibly impressive winner of the triumph and as zarkava suggests what he needs is a strongly run race. perhaps he can’t defy the five year old stat but at cheltenham I’m always looking for horses that have struggled all year on winter ground then get revitalized with the spring sun on their backs and some decent ground under them

also with faugheen and arctic fire out the opposition doesn’t look too formidable.

Well I am hoping for decent ground as I have backed TOP NOTCH E/W after it came back to form at Kelso.

Sorry Stuart but Top Notch is the one of hendersons that handles soft. It’s Hargam who wants it good ground and so does MTOY and peace and co.
Henderson actually said before that top notch would beat Hargam on soft but Hargam would beat Top Notch on good ground.
So if it’s good to soft or better I would be on Top Notch

Think Identity thief is a tremendous each way bet in this…Was impressive to get back up in the fighting fith and beat top notch considering the mistake he made at the last…I Just feel the horse is improving from race to race and as it gains experiance..Also will relish the hill Imo and can see him staying on very strongly from the last..No doubting Mr.De Bromhead will have him spot on and has been trained with the race in mind and he is my idea off a poor champion hurdle winner this time.

At the beginning off the season I thought so much off peace and Co but seems a diffrent animal this season..hasn’t trained on maybe is the case very dissapointing as I felt he could give Faugheen a race..Maybe the fast pace off a champion hurdle and the better ground will help so a few quid each way on him as I feel he may just improve but you will know your fate pretty early with peace and Co.

Prefer Top Notch each way myself at the prices. 4x the price of Identity Thief and not beaten far at Newcastle and Henderson’s horses peak at Cheltenham. Also has course and Festival form from last year’s Triumph so acts in a fast run race.

It looks a funny sub-standard renewal.

Yeah you might be right… anyway five year olds have a dire record in this so he’s got that to overcome to

today I backed Nichols Canyon… think it’s too big at 11-2. How can that be 11-2 and Annie Power 6-4? What good horses has she beat recently?

Stays further than two miles so that should be a help as not convinced all of these will get up the hill… on this seasons form he’s not behind any of these anyway.

My tent or yours is interesting but watched the betfair preview last night and Paul Nicholls was adamant it’s a huge ask to win a champion hurdle off a huge break… think they needed to get one run into him.

As things stand (no Annie Power yet) Nichols Canyon has won more Grade 1s than the rest of the field put together.

He’s won twice as many G1s as Annie Power and 3 times more than The New One.

On that alone he should be a stonking bet, but I just get the feeling we are in for another Sublimity or For Auction.

Yeah I rather have that feeling as well, but the thing is when you go into the race with the feeling that an outsider is going to win, it never seems to happen

only seems to happen when you least expect it

As a new one on here, that horse had every chance of at least a place. Lucky enough to be on at 20/1 ew before faugheens withdrawal. This is my favourite race of the whole year -win or lose! Be lucky

Checking the stats, I discovered that Henry De Bromhead has not had a winner at Cheltenham since 2011.

His last 28 runs have yielded zero winners.

Of course statistics are not vital to some punters but I’d be a bit concerned for Identity Thief.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Another way you could look at it is that he’s due a winner

certainly I am as well, my horrible run as a punter surely can’t continue?
