    What about Portrait King ??

Stays longer than the mother in law and if he goes in this desperate ground and stays on his feet 25/1 could be a big price.
He would have gone close at Aintree if he had not have fell !!

No question marks there then

Fourofakind will be a play for me here. Will take another but can’t really split some of the others at the head of the market

Jonjo is supposedly worried about the ground for Upswing.

On form has a great chance and has more improvement in him.
I think he goes on heavy, but will he stay the trip on heavy?
Even if the answer is yes; massive negative for me is form of the yard.
Worth opposing at current prices imo.

Am more interested in the other Nicholls horse Wasps. Black Thunder a much more straightforward type than Benvolio. Latter seems to need a view of the front and not always the best of jumpers. Too much pace for me me to be interested in him. If making a mistake could struggle to keep a prominent position. Once behind horses seems to give up. Can do anything with Black Thunder, front run or held up. Often thought he’s one for a test of stamina. Possibly more the Aintree National, which (strangely enough) is usually less of a test of stamina than the Welsh (on average – they go slower at Chepstow)! That said, BT has an excellent record in very soft conditions. Probably needed reappearance and given an easy time. Second in last season’s United House Gold Cup off 3 lbs lower mark than here reads well and only 8 1/2 lengths behind Many Clouds (at level weights) in Betbright Cup. Top weight isn’t ideal in ground like this, but has an excellent claimer taking 7 lbs off so only carries 11-5.

    Attritional race in prospect
    Pinstickers time…

    Woodford County
    Fourofakind

    Good luck

(Moe, I wouldn’t trouble myself too much about that first 5 – might well be only 3 finishers)

Woodford County is one of mine too Joe. Done Mountainous, Emperor’s Choice, Woodford County and Black Thunder as main bets (win only) with a saver on Cogry. Woodford County won well last time out under today’s jockey. These conditions are a doddle for anything that can grind out a win at Exeter’s stiff course on heavy ground over 3m6m153yrds, provided he’s recovered.

Fourofakind isn’t far off a bet for me either. Good record at Chepstow and conditions shouldn’t be a problem. What concerns me is whether his jumping will stand the test of a big field unless he can get a prominent posi’. Think Harry Whittington is a trainer who’ll be a lot better known sooner rather than later.

EDIT: In fact, FOAK is now a saver bet. :good:

Worried about Woodford Counties jumping [although I have backed it]. Bob Ford is the only one who will definitely go there and be like a kid at Christmas because of the knee high mud! Trying not to have a bet on FOAK. First time in ages that I haven’t backed Portrait King so he’s bound to win. Think I’m going to cave in and back Tour des Champs though. Very much aimed at the race.

The encouraging run of Mountainous at Sandown last time when I backed him sways towards giving him another chance. Off the same mark as when he won this two years ago. I suppose the worry is whether he retains the same ability as an 11 year old.

The piece of form I liked GT was his 2nd off 139 in this last year. Together with Nicholls recent fortune change I would not discount BT either

    Hi Moe,

I agree with you on BOB FORD, he has a mind of his own, putting it mildly,
which can sometimes scupper his chances, but if he settles he has every
chance. I still think that UPSWING is the likeliest winner, but I couldn’t
resist having a few quid on El Loco

Forget Trainer form Ginge when it comes to Jonjo,he is a master of readying one for a target and this is a target horse today. All this Smokescreen about the ground is just the usual patter,I am pleased the ground is like it is rather than Good as he is a horse who just gets outpaced on faster ground.Upswing will pop around today at a pace that will suit and hopefully be one of only a handful who actually complete.33/4m on bottomless ground isn’t going to be pretty viewing but lets hope there’s no dramas.I’ve had a saver on ‘Tour des Champs’ as he’s a horse I took too a while back but for me the Mcmanus horse looks the most progressive. Good luck and if I cant win I hope Bobby VTC does as its about time he put a winner up from these great previews of his. :good:

True it’s a good bit of form Wasps, those who’ve performed well one year tend to do well again, acts on the ground, stays really well, probably been laid out for the race and stable in form. Those are the positives. However, last year he was able to disput the lead throughout which restricted mistakes to a minimum. Also blinkered for the first time there, appendages don’t seem to have worked since. Main reason I have is if taking a look at the in running comments of every run – you’ll see he does better when either leading or disputing. With Saroque, Red Devil Lads, Chase The Spud, Bob Ford, Emperor’s Choice, Tours Des Champs and possibly also Fourofakind in the race, got big doubts whether he’ll be able to lead/dispute and even more doubt he’ll stay there. Once passed tends to give up. imo Benvolio is the type to have on your side only when likely to get an uncontested lead or dispute the lead; or bet in-running if I can see nothing wants to take him on.

I prefer the top four in the market but can’t split them hence I’m looking further down the betting. I suppose the reasons you say GT is reflected in the price.

May have a late saver on Bob Ford. If only it was Ffos Las!

    GL with your bets everyone

Backed most of them[as usual] except the winner but pleased about the result especially for VtC and always glad when Liam’s horse does better than Aidan’s. Hope Bob Ford is ok.

It’s been a long time since 2013 winner Mountainous done much, but could be that that race took it’s toll. He’ll come here 5lb lower than then, and with Kerry Lee no doubt well aware what it takes to land this race, then off the back of a very encouraging run at Sandown last time, at 25’s, he looks a safe antepost bet, with him surely certain to head line up.

I’m tipping my hat to yo Bob

Do you still think so Gord? ;-)
