With the Welsh equivalent just over a week away, what’s peoples thoughts on this seasons winner at Aintree? Probably be a few more clues after Chepstow anyway.
I’ve bet a few for it already, but haven’t really settled on a main selection yet. Got about a dozen on the go on Betfair, but after previous no shows in this Ante-Post, haven’t gone as nuts as previous years.
With all the talk of Hello Bud after his excellent win in The Becher, Join Togethers run was somewhat overlooked, he could be very nicely treated come April. Thought that was a very decent run.
Of the favourites, Seabass, and On His Own haven’t been seen yet, and with no word on them, may be the case that connections have them wrapped up in cotton wool. Particularly interested in seeing Seabass back out.
Have only backed Join Together thus far because :
Old Vic – Comply Or Die, Don’t Push It
Montelimar ( the dams sire ) – Hedgehunter, Montys PassTalk about being bred for a National !!!!!!!!!!
December 18, 2012 at 23:41 #423490i’d be all over teaforthree like a sore rash here.
December 19, 2012 at 22:30 #423590If Roberto Goldback gets in on a decent weight (anything less than 11-6) i think he’d be tough to beat, especially with Geraghty on his back.
I remember a couple seasons back watching Join Together in a novice chase at Chepstow where he fell when traveling well. I was working the radio with Gareth Topham who was calling the race and when we went off the air the first thing i said to him was "that Join Together will win a Grand National one day" and he immediately agreed. His lineage has already been covered, so i won’t delve back into that, but he also has another vital box ticked; novice form. Grand National winners are almost always good/top novices who just failed to make the Gold Cup/Hennessy grade once out of novice class. Join Together is that horse. Will he win it as an 8 year old? It’ll take some doing, but it’s no impossible.

I agree about both horses. I picked RG last year before it was sent for the more unsuitable Betfred Bowl
December 20, 2012 at 19:53 #423639Don’t forget about
Beshabar
. He is being saved for this, is a lethal force on good ground and ran a brilliant race in the Hennessy when last seen.
December 21, 2012 at 18:11 #423739ON HIS OWN and PRINCE DE BEAUCHENE only horses i bet on the national.

Try Betfair.
January 3, 2013 at 19:24 #425120I like Seabass and Join together
January 4, 2013 at 13:16 #425214Cappa Bleu for me. 11 now but still very few miles on the clock, a great run in the National last year. He stayed on from nowhere at the last to be 4th having been hampered by nearly every faller! Evan Williams produced State of Play to be placed in 3 consecutive Nationals and looks to have a similar ambition with this lad. With so few runs he may still be improving with experience and is a high class horse who stays all day and jumps well.
January 4, 2013 at 17:02 #425250Right now my shortlist reads as…
Auroras Encore
Join Together
Midnight Chase
Roberto GoldbackAll bound to get entries and seem to have the race as their main target (heard Midnight Chase is taking a "step up in trip" after disappointing in the Lexus. Can only assume it’ll be perhaps the Grand National Trial at Haydock before a possible crack at the National)
January 5, 2013 at 15:14 #425388Midnight Chase on my radar too Peter. Shame they persisted with trying to blaze a trail in the top races, still think if they run him like they did at Wetherby last season, he might have surprised a few. Anyway, I’d be very surprised if they didn’t target Aintree with him, and been chipping away at him for a while now, taking 100’s to 140’s.
Bet a few for small amounts during the autumn, but either laid them off, or took a small hit. Thankfully no harm done (so far), learnt my lesson 2 years ago.
As I said earlier, Seabass and Join Together, have an obvious chance, and really looking forward to Seabass, but not bet either of them.
I’ve taken a chance on these so far, but still to pick out one I’ll focus on.
Quito De La Roque
@ 110’s to 250’s – Found short at top level since promising novice days, to be honest I’d think there’s more chance of seeing him at Fairyhouse, but worth a go at they prices.
Tharawaat
@ 75’s – Bet him at massive odds for it last year, and think they were possibly too cautious with him, he ran a blinder, and I really think he should have been closer. Form a bit uninspiring this season though.
Bradley
– Took up to 190’s on him, but still remain unconvinced he’ll be targetted for this. Really fancied him for it though, but that was tempered by his poor jumping at Cheltenham last time. Hopefully they can get his jumping back to something like it was before, and at least give him an entry.
Ikorodu Road
– On the upgrade last season, and after a couple of poor shows, ran a much better race at Doncaster last time. Very happy to take up to 310’s on him.
Call The Police
– Trainer seems to be keeping him to 2, 2 and a half miles for the moment, but I think he’s crying out for a trip. Was still running on at end of RSA last year, and don’t think would be beyond him. I’m pretty sure Mullins is keeping him as low profile as possible, with a big race in mind. Probably unlikely to be Aintree, but at 210’s to 480’s, I’m happy to be wrong.
Outlaw Pete
– Real fave of mine, and will obviously be targetted for the Cross Country at Cheltenham. They don’t always transfer that form to other courses, and he’s a bit of a rogue, but when on-song he’s well capable. Took up to 440’s
Triggerman
– I’ll know more after todays Welsh National. A lot to like about the way he returned form injury last time out, and although I’ve bet him today, I’m not convinced it’ll suit. Fingers crossed though, and he’s definitely got a big one in him, providing he stays sound. Took up to 380’s.
With my track record, half of these won’t even get an entry, but that’s what I’ve got on the go anwyway.
January 5, 2013 at 19:23 #425437i’d be all over teaforthree like a sore rash here.
That makes 2 of us.
Since Teaforthree has been tipped Ante Post in Timeform’s 50 to follow (along with Prince De Beauchene & On His Own) I’ve been watching it closely. I thought today would be a big run but in April if he stays sound, expect a bigger run.
January 12, 2013 at 18:04 #426105Auroras Encore ran a good race under top weight in the Classic Chase today. Really looked like challenging before the final bend and seems more at home over these longer distances.
January 13, 2013 at 23:14 #426237Think I can rule Bradley out for the timebeing, has looked a different horse it’s last 2 runs, an may be something physical niggling him.
January 14, 2013 at 11:14 #426257Bit optimisitc backing so far in advance, but Prince De Beauchene and Teaforthree have been my long term fancies for this for a while, have them both at 20/1.
January 15, 2013 at 18:33 #426423Katenko is interesting at 25s, absolutely tanked home last time and jumped like a stag.
