Aye, Ginger, he’s always been racing’s strongest ally in the RSPCA. He’s battled on really well imo considering the belligerence of his boss toward the race.
I suspect we will never know just how much he’s done to help the GN get to where it is now. Doubtless many will be claiming yesterday for themselves – as the old saying goes, success has many fathers; failure is a bast@rd
April 7, 2013 at 18:28 #435728The result reaffirms that you need a horse with a low weight to win. There was only one horse from the first 10 home with more than 11 stone on their back. Hats off to those that backed the winner, certainly a proven stayer and nice for a smallish yard to win. With only the Scottish version and the Bet365 left to go from the jumps it’s now on to the flat which I hope will be a great season in prospect.
April 7, 2013 at 20:07 #435751I’ll just turn to laying the first 4 in the betting
Sound advice for all, considering the silly odds seen on Saturday. Many years from now scientists who specialise in the workings of the human mind will still be struggling to explain how Seabass went off at 11/2 in a 40 runner handicap over fences.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Highly questionable observation, seeing the previous 4 winners all had at least 11 stone.

Reminds me of 1986 HD. As a teenager I jokingly told the mobile baker "I’ll give you a tip, West Tip for the Grand National, got free bread and cake for a week!

I said low weight – your point is rather dubious as two of the previous 4 winners carried 11 stone 0. Those at the head of the weights this year ran poorly, and the fact that 9 out of the first 10 home carried a low weight is pretty conclusive if you ask me. Next year I’ll be looking at the foot rather than the top weights to find the winner.
April 9, 2013 at 19:01 #435882There’s only one place I’ll be looking for next year’s winner and that comes in the form of this year’s third
April 9, 2013 at 21:30 #435897If Back In Focus doesn’t have too tough a race in the Gold Cup, he’s my idea of the winner.

So don't run, just like the others always do

Never known 11st to be referred to as a low weight before, especially with the top weight being only 11st 10lbs.
I’ve no time for 10 year trends but one year trends is something else but you’re not alone judging by all the recent euphoria based on just this years running of the race.
April 10, 2013 at 20:20 #435981Teaforthree is next year’s National winner. Also might be worth watching The Rainbow Hunter next year, it wasn’t his fault when he unseated at Canal Turn (got taken out by Big Fella Thanks) and then jumped every fence loose and eventually finished second.
April 12, 2013 at 23:37 #436125Agree about
Teaforthree
Lewis. Unlike the winner and second is still young enough to improve. Jumps well, acts on any going, sound, genuine and consistent. Teaforthree should be well clear of everything else in the betting. If I were pricing it up he’d be at least half the current price. Taken my first bet on the race with Victor Chandler’s non-runner-free bet @ 25/1.
