AJC Oaks winner Once Were Wild must be one.
That brings it up to 5.
July 20, 2010 at 15:45 #307564Andy, Racing NSW have a vacancy for a cadet handicapper.
July 20, 2010 at 17:23 #307590Made a list of horses
Dezign
Jersey City
Actrice
Royal Esteem
Cap Dancer
Antiguan
King Lionheart
Just A Blaze
Seventh ReasonThe one that seems to fit the bill is
Just A Blaze
, in that he’s run in Riccarton, New Zealand.
Is actually entered at Newcastle this Saturday, 1500m.
Has to improve 20+ pounds.
July 20, 2010 at 19:16 #307612Looks to me that a reasonable route to force one’s way into the Spring Carnival from Sydney is to win the G3 2300m Toohey’s New Newcastle Gold Cup on Ayr Gold Cup Day, and use this as a stepping stone to the Metropolitan H’cap. Then onwards to the Caulfield Cup.
edit: Got the math wrong. Newcastle Gold Cup is on a Thursday.

It wasn’t just the younger horses that pleased O’Brien on the weekend, Caulfield Cup placegetter Vigor also put in an excellent gallop, as did improving grey No Jurisdiction.
“Vigor is in terrific order and we are looking forward to a huge campaign from him.” O’Brien said.
“He was very good last spring winning the Group 2 Makybe Diva Stakes and his run in the Caulfield Cup was great. We have a little bit of unfinished business with him and we are confident he can deliver.”
O’Brien plans to trial most of his spring team at Flemington in the next fortnight as he prepares them for first-up runs in August.
Also giving O’Brien reason to smile is the knowledge that stable stalwart Master O’Reilly is in terrific order and will be gearing up for another Spring as a major Cups contender.
The rising eight-year-old returns to the Flemington stables this week after completing the early stages of his campaign on the water walker as he looks to run in his fourth consecutive Melbourne Cup in November.
“He loves the two miles here on his home track and we are aiming to improve on his fourth placings in the past two runnings of Cup.”
July 20, 2010 at 21:40 #307644I agree with Just A Blaze, he seems to be the improving type who could sneak into the field.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she enters Theseo or More Joyous in the Melbourne Cup, and then decides to give them a run if they win the Cox Plate.
Theseo is qualified for the Melbourne Cup off his 2nd in The BMW last year.
Neither are likely to stay 3200m at all, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see them there.
Bianca is retired, I loved her, so honest!
July 20, 2010 at 23:32 #307664Moody has said that
Hanks
was one of the horses that had the virus, and will miss the Cups, but have a light Spring campaign, and then be aimed at the Autumn.
edit: Moody discusses all his Spring prospects:-

Not sure who you spoke to at Coolmore Andy. This report from the Racing Post –
MIKHAIL GLINKA, who was as short as 8-1 with Bet365 for the Ladbrokes St Leger on September 11 will not be heading to Doncaster for the Classic.
The Queen’s Vase winner, who was recently sold out of Aidan O’Brien’s Ballydoyle yard,
Hmm. Dig deeper?
July 21, 2010 at 13:04 #307741It arrived at Moore’s yard last Monday, 12th, so its probably heading to Chechnya, erm via Dubai as its going there next Spring.
July 21, 2010 at 16:27 #307768O’Shea Happy With His Cup Hopes
Tuesday, 20 July 2010:“They’re both great,” O’Shea reported.
“They’ve made the necessary improvement that they needed to make to be competitive in the spring.
“
Zabrasive
has made the most significant improvement, obviously because of his youth but I’m very happy with both horses.”
O’Shea plans to send Rosehill Guineas winner Zabrasive straight to Melbourne with his return to racing set for the Memsie Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on August 28.
Zabrasive’s program will include the Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on September 18 and the Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 2 before the Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 16.
Sydney Cup winner
Jessicabeel
will resume at Randwick on September 4 in the Tramway Handicap (1400m).
She will have another two starts in Sydney and will join Zabrasive in the Caulfield Cup after she runs in the Craven Plate at Randwick on October 2.
July 21, 2010 at 16:44 #307771Well, that was the good news for Z-Boy Andy.
Bad news is that Zarzuela is out for the Spring.
I might have worked that out when she wasn’t mentioned in the Moody interview, but I didn’t know that that was where she was.

Racing: Group one spring stars resume in Ruakaka sprint
By Mike Dillon
3:59 AM Thursday Jul 22, 2010Forget looking for the buds on the trees, if you want confirmation some good racing is just around the corner again, look at the field for the sprint at Ruakaka on Saturday.
Less than a week after we saw Trentham’s open-class 1600m Whyte Handicap won in time significantly slower than the pacers’ New Zealand record for the distance, we see four group one performers running for a $17,000 stake.
You don’t need any more evidence that top-class horses are about to replace some of the mudders that have been doing sterling work in the ankle-deep stuff lately without raising the excitement levels.
Sterling Prince, Obsession, Beautiful Girl and Run Like Al are going to go around on Saturday against in-form winter horses Sandblaster, Miss Raggedy Ann and One Nite Stand in what should be a terrific contest.
Sterling Prince will be an interesting runner.
He is best known as a stayer and is using this race as a kick-off point in a campaign aimed at the 3200m of the Melbourne Cup on November 2.
But he is not without a turn of foot over the shorter distances when fresh.
Last campaign before heading to Melbourne, he finished a close-up third to Tavistock and Mufhasa in a 1:22.09 1400m of the Mudgway Partsworld Stakes at Hastings.
Saturday’s 1200m is less suitable in distance, but the class is there and there should be plenty of speed on in this race, aiding those running on late.
Sterling Prince’s Melbourne form was wonderful.
He didn’t have a lot of luck, but managed to finish third in the Geelong Cup, then scored easily in the group three A$250,000 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2500m) on the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington.
"He’s doing very well and provided he runs well this time he’ll definitely be heading to Melbourne," said co-trainer Wayne Hillis.

July 21, 2010 at 22:47 #307831No, no, no, no, no!!!! Where did you hear about Zarzuela?
And Chiswickian, I reckon that the deal wasn’t finalised, so Coolmore does what all companies like to do – denies everything.
July 21, 2010 at 23:30 #307835The most authoritative source there is – Andrew Bensley.
July 21, 2010 at 23:39 #307836I’m gutted – I thought she could become only the fourth mare to win the Cups double.
Hmmm, who to look to now? Maybe Theology, maybe Monaco Consul, maybe Jaguar Mail.
July 21, 2010 at 23:41 #307837Just heard an interview with Tony Noonan. Sounds like he’s not all there, or doesn’t know what he’s doing, but I think it is more a case of not making one’s mind up until one has to.
Buccellati
has been in Doomben, Queensland for 4 months, mainly so that he doesn’t miss the English Summer, and has a nice coat, it being warmer there. Has been in work 3 months! Will have a race or two in Sydney, and then head to Melbourne for the Cox Plate, with also a Melbourne Cup entry.
Kutchinsky
(Queensland Derby second), will head to the Caulfield Cup.
Also heard earlier from Bensley that
Driffield Gold
, who almost died from an infection, is back. I wouldn’t have thought it would achieve much this Spring after that illness.
