Was planning to open a topic for each of teh key Breeders Cup Races Thursday evening. Hope it won’t be hijacking this thread? Let me know if you object.
It will probably be easier to keep track of all the races and comments that way. Or you could break it down by day.
November 4, 2009 at 22:08 #257133Darren you can watch the races on http://www.calracing.com
Click on Oak Tree.
November 4, 2009 at 22:23 #257139California Flag got loose this morning and decided to try going the opposite way sans rider. He stopped at the gap (where the horses come and go from the track in the morning) and walked off fine. From what was reported he was flying. It must have had a lot of people holding their breath though.

Why don’t you just lay her TBP on Betfair?
November 5, 2009 at 06:50 #257171Thankfully they are showing the Breeders Cup on ESPN out here, so will have to get a wee lucky 63 phoned back to the UK.

Smart Seattle 6-1

Mushka 16-1
November 5, 2009 at 08:33 #257178I am also interested in Gladiatorus in the belief a reproduction of the Dubai form would be more than good enough to see off this lot. The best you can get over here is 12/1 – can someone advise where to look for the US odds?
There aren’t yet any US odds as such. They have just predicted that he will be a 20/1 shot – could be accurate or well off depending. Simply a case of using their Pool betting system on the night if you want to back him at US odds
Just to clarify if I leave it to Friday I can ask the bookmaker for the American odds the same as for the French racing? Are the Godolphin runners coupled as they do in France?

Betfair may be your only avenue to the American prices.
Can’t see our main stream bookies offering 2 prices about the same horse/s when they have made their book up from bets taken, but I’m not sure.I notice the Racing Post SP last year seems to relate to our market and not the USA starting prices.

They have suspended the market as usual.

No they haven’t – they have just switched to the final dec raceday market rather than antepost. Select US Racing-Santa Anita 7th Nov rather than ANTEPSOT-US RACING etc.
November 5, 2009 at 19:56 #257302I have the past performances in a pdf for Friday if anyone is interested. Just email me.
November 5, 2009 at 20:31 #257308Do you know, against all the evidence and all known three year old form, I can’t help thinking that Johnny G has set up The Rainbow all season for the Ladies Classic tomorrow night.
I can just see him afterward saying that this was the target all along.

Really? Can’t see how this can possibly be the case given her huge number of runs, many of which have been on supposedly unsuitable surfaces etc.
November 5, 2009 at 22:34 #257331Not sure how many US members we have but just wondered if there is a little trepidation that the Europeans and Goldophin might just clean up. Is the home defence considered to be relatively weak compared to previous years?
November 5, 2009 at 22:56 #257332You’re probably right, Hard Held.
On paper, it looks a tall task, but Raven’s Pass had a curiously similar time of it in 2008. A disappointing first half followed by gradual improvement. In the winter of 2007, most people were expecting great things of the Raven – and a traditional campaign too. It didn’t really happen.
Johnny G surprised us all in last years post-big race commentary by saying that the BC was always the target and that everything else was one big prep. I lost a lot of respect for him as a person (if not as a trainer), following those comments, but he’s a shrewd cookie, someone who uses eloquence, dry wit and entertaining banter as a form of smoke and mirrors.
On paper, I’ve got to have a few pennies on Mott’s filly. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a different Rainbow tomorrow.

Stilvi, In my opinion it’s stronger than last year.
I have them down as winning more races than the Euros by some margin.
