Wonder how Deano’s Beeno would have progressed on the Flat with Johnston had he not been sold to MC Pipe for 25K as a 4yo?
A nascent Cup horse perhaps
February 4, 2008 at 22:10 #140255I for one rember stadning by the winning post at Newmarket watching attraction break from the gate then run a decent field into the turf too win the 1000 Guineas, it was one hell of a day as all the northerners prescent roared her home as stuck one on the southern racing establishment.
One hell of a day on the heath, thanks fr the memories and keep them coming Mr Johnston.
February 4, 2008 at 22:10 #140256Fellow Scot Mark Johnston is a thoroughly professional and skilled trainer who is a credit to his chosen sport. His achievements have come solely as a result of hard work and the ability to deliver. In recent times his links with some of the more wealthy owners and, presumably, the financial rewards that go with that, have all been earned ten times over.
As you may have guessed from the above I have the highest regard for the man and I hope to be present one day to see him win a Derby. Apart from seeing Lester get back on board and trot up in the big race nothing would give me greater pleasure.
February 5, 2008 at 14:39 #140388Johnston won the Fighting Fifth and County Hurdle with Star Rage back in 1996/7. The horse won a total of 28 races in a career spanning 137 outings over 10 years.
February 5, 2008 at 15:18 #140390Won’t happen mdwillis, Johnston has stated numerous times about his reluctance with jumpers. Hopefully naps could shed some light on this subject, as far as I can tell, he owned the only horse Johnston has sent jumping in recent times, namely Riyadh.
Very true DJ. MJ said from the start that he wanted no involvement with jumpers but finally agreed to have a go with Riyadh as a favour. Perhaps if he had a more willing animal more may have followed , but sadly Riyadh only helped reaffirm his original decision that he was sticking to the flat.
