Rosallion actually goes well on good-soft and might even act on soft. However, the softer it is the less chance he has of staying the trip.
Difficult to know what the actual state of the ground was today. Times were what you might expect of GOOD ground. One just 0.78 seconds slower than standard. However, the fairly strong tail wind had a bit to do with those times. So I’d say probably GOOD-SOFT. The soft / heavy ground horses so far haven’t done well. However, it’s that type of ground that’s loose on top many don’t seem to like whatever their specific going preference. Those with a turn of foot are finding it difficult too. Hopefully it’ll be different tomorrow. With a little more in the way of showers expected immediately after racing up to around 20:00… And only a small chance of any rain from then through to the finish of Newmarket Sunday.
Does anyone live near Newmarket to tell us how much rain has fallen since Racing finished today?
Value Is EverythingMay 3, 2024 at 20:12 #1692656Triptych should be able to update us on local weather
May 3, 2024 at 20:27 #1692659If City Of Troy has trained on then this should be on all known form a formality but we don’t know that. Ghostwriter is a CD winner and at the prices is worth a punt.
The more I know the less I understand.
May 3, 2024 at 23:30 #1692697I live 45 mile’s from Newmarket and we have had heavy rain from 9am – 4.00pm today
Rain now stopped and no more forecast until Monday. It should dry out nicely at Newmarket if no more rain and Rosallion will take his chance.
Let’s face it you only get one chance at this race and a good horse should go on any ground.
Must admit Sean Levey looked pretty despondent this afternoon being interviewed saying that driving to the races it was getting wetter and wetter and it is prone to heavy flooding around surrounding villages but the chalk based Rowley Mile drains very quickly and should be on the good side for tomorrow ..
I hadn’t backed Iberian because of the ground but feel that I can now have an EW play..
Iberian .. 33/1 EW
Already have Ten Bob Tony now 66/1

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 4, 2024 at 07:44 #1692714Haatem e/w for me today.
May 4, 2024 at 08:46 #1692719I’m not sure if they’ve both trained on and arrive in top form it is a formality. The City Of Troy camp will have a very good idea of where they stand on Rosallion based on how highly they regard Unquestionable, you’d imagine fairly highly given he was their Breeders Cup Juvenile horse. It was only a length but to me Rosallion beat Unquestionable very comfortably. It could be that Unquestionable is miles behind City Of Troy in their pecking order, that isn’t something we are privy to and there are plenty of other unknowns too. Its a no bet for me, first 2000 Guineas I’ll probably sit out because I’m not hugely against the favourite but I wouldn’t back him either.
May 4, 2024 at 10:06 #1692728If “the lads” had any real doubt about Troy claiming this prize they would surely have declared one or two more contestants. I imagine they regard his chances as something between 1/5 and 1/10 On, the main dangers being trouble in running (unlikely with small field) or some freak incident involving horse or jockey before the off or in racing.
May 4, 2024 at 10:25 #1692737Skybet boosted COT to evens so have had a bit, put on Rosallion top 3 at 10/11, Task Force is each way poke at 22s and had a few quid ante on Night Raider 40s.
That’ll do, no more bets, unless……..
May 4, 2024 at 10:31 #1692741Haatem w/o 2 favs at 12/1 for me.
May 4, 2024 at 10:52 #1692746To be honest I can’t recall a year where he’s only sent one to the 2000 Guineas but then he’s done the same with the 1000 Guineas too (which I can recall him doing with Love) so maybe they just don’t have enough strong contenders at the mile, maybe they are changing how they operate. We know he’ll probably throw half the field at the Derby still but then they have a lot more middle distance horses in the yard.
May 4, 2024 at 11:01 #1692754City Of Troy 10-1 ew. Good luck all.
May 4, 2024 at 11:04 #1692755I have 16/1 against City Of Troy, taken after he won his maiden at The Curragh. Only to small money unfortunately but it has still been fun having it to look forward to throughout the winter.
No covering bets, no laying off. Whatever will be will be.
I hope it is the start of a special season.
May 4, 2024 at 11:22 #1692764Nicely spotted Cork 16’s is a price you could only dream of.
Wondering what we are going to see when the stalls open. Will he be sent of in front like Frankel don’t really think that’s Ryan Moore’s style.
My guess is that Saffie Osborne will make the running on Ten Bob Tony who could set up a very tactical race as TBT is pretty nifty having won well keeping on at The Craven meeting over 7f beating Boiling Point who franked his form yesterday.
Go back 10 years to TBT’s sire Night of Thunder winning this at 40/1 and take into account he is half brother to the late Highfield Princess..66/1, taken last night along with 50/1 earlier is a crazy price…Just small EW bets but I’m hopeful that he’ll run well and snatch a place.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 4, 2024 at 12:06 #1692784I think Haatem is a bit of a forgotten horse in this. We know he has trained on with his win in the Craven in a decent time. I think 25/1 doesn’t reflect his chances
May 4, 2024 at 12:11 #1692785betway super boost 11/8 on City of Troy
