I joined this fabulous forum 5 yrs ago and for every ten enemies I made I’ve been fortunate enough to make a friend.Last year I had the pleasure of meeting up with both Jonibake and Gingertipster both regular and Original contributors to this forum and it was memorable.I have since met up with ‘Joni’ again at Gods Country and we were fortunate enough to have a winner,King Henrys First Mohican.
Last night I had the great pleasure of finally meeting someone who I took to the moment he posted a ‘Welcome Gord’ on here all those 5 yrs ago and has been a great support on here ever since.Having read his posts over the years I sensed a kind, modest, unassuming sort of guy and a guy who deals with adversity likes he deals with everything and thats with humility. As the Sun shone down on Nottingham races last night TAPK knew that his reputation was on the line but just like Nathan Hughes when my backs to the wall I turn to Hayley Turner!! <!– s:lol: –>
<!– s:lol: –> She delivered in style and kindly posed for photographs after. We battled through the card picking 22/1 winners and not backing them,I bowled a googly in Majestic Mananan! <!– s:oops: –>
<!– s:oops: –> but Nath hit a 6 in the last when Not Rigg held on by a fast diminishing neck at 10/1.It was one of those nights you remember and one that puts things into perspective……..You only live once! You played a blinder Nath!Cheers and lets hope we do it again…………Dawn approach,(Me) versus Toronado,(You)! springs to mind! <!– s:lol: –>

July 7, 2013 at 20:23 #445071Well it was a day and a half, you know it’s a good one because the time went quicker than Frankel in the guineas. Here’s the long low down.
It was an absolute pleasure meeting up with Gord. I know a lot of people on this forum think TAPK is a right sh!tbag at times(his words) but I can vouch to him being the perfect host and a real great guy, nothing was too much trouble for his mightiness, I told him I was driving up and was looking at hotels on the web to stay the night but Gord took it upon himself to find me the perfect location just off the motorway and with plenty of parking spaces and insisted on paying for it out of his Trading Leather Irish Derby winnings, as your driving up the path the first thing you see in a field alongside the driveway is three very big bulls with very sharp looking horns, I park up and walk over to take a look and they seemed a bit mad and ready to kill. I phone Gord to tell him I’ve arrived and he says he’s just on his way in, the next thing this car pulls up and I’m looking and waving thinking is that him? I walk over shouting ‘you crazy wearing a bright red shirt with those bulls about’ only for the chap to say ‘can I help you’?. it wasn’t Gord after all
.On the way to the racecourse Gord took me on a guided tour of Nottingham, we were going through this one area and Gord says to me ‘this part of the City is rough, full of drugs and prostitutes, we’ll pop back later if you like’

The actual course is flat as a pancake all the way around and looked stunning in the evening Sunshine. It was officially
the best ever attendance for Nottingham and as we stood admiring the views we could hear people whispering as they walked past saying ‘have you heard that TAPK and Nath from the TRF are here this evening’ or ‘There is a lot of people here with ginger hair, I wonder if that’s the lad who backs half the field’.As we inspected the horses in the paddock for the first Gord kept saying something or other about Trade Fair I thought he was on about the charity but he was only going on about the 22/1 winner of the 1st race, which he managed not to back.
Hayley made the night for us when winning the third, we had a feeling she was in with a chance so stood where we could incase we needed to make a quick exit down to the winners enclosure to welcome Hayley back in, we were both gutted when Hopefilly crossed the line locked with Memory Styx as from our angle it looked nailed on that the Channon horse had won. A few jokes about Dave Smith came out as the judge called us the winner at a tasty 8/1. Hayley was happy as was I to have a photo with her, my face is one of embarrassment Joni but only because when I tuned into radio two via the left ‘turning button’ I suffered a bout of premature ejaculation.

A brilliant day was topped off in the last when the ‘Henrythenavigator’ colt took to the ground conditions which were changed from good to firm to firm to concrete clung on for victory. I’ll be adding the 8/1 + 10/1 winners to my thread later.
Throughout the day we spoke of TRF and the great contributiors and must have mentioned everyone half a dozen times, all positive stuff even the bits about Ginge.
Gordon has a lot of followers on his threads and I’d recommend anyone who has the chance to get to Nottingham races to get in touch with him as he’s the perfect company for a day at the races.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
