For the record the RP reports that vets certs. were produced for the 3 non runners.<br>Stoneacre Gareth "not eaten up"<br>Kilvickean "banged its head on a horsebox"<br>Wibbadune "not 100% after running the previous day"<br>Their racereader reports that the form is worthless as the "race" resembled something on home gallops. The RP lead story reports that many observers felt the "race" a farce and alleged that the rider of the runner up was hitting air with his whip

PMSL. He is obviously a very creative trainer then. A dreadful misfortune that 3 of his 5 horses were unable to run. I wonder what the owners had to say.
December 31, 2006 at 13:59 #34760I will simply say that I am glad that all races are not like this.<br>A forgettable affair, for the wrong reasons.<br>I would be interested in knowing if there was prize money for third place? I suspect not.
December 31, 2006 at 14:08 #34761There was prize money down to fourth.
December 31, 2006 at 14:27 #34762Hmmm. I’m genuinely surprised.<br>I guess i’m too sceptical.

Maybe not?<br>I believe that 3rd & 4th prize money is distributed amongst the horses that actually ran?

A major consideration with the Lingfield contest seems to be that Grayson (no relation) entered his horses – five of the original entry of 11 – in good faith, having been informed by at least two of the trainers of the remainder that their charges were definite runners.
I think he’s conducted himself pretty well throughout in what could have been a real minefield of a situation for him.
Nobody, as far as I can recall, cried foul when the Cartmel contest cut up to the two Lambe runners only, possibly because compared to the Polytrack sprint of yesterday, a 3m2f novice chase around the Sticky Toffee Mines presents greater manner of pratfalls before the possibility – not eventuality – of riding out a finish is even reached.
I’m not really smelling any rats on this occasion.
