*Harrington stable I should add
June 27, 2015 at 14:39 #1116901The punters seemed to know Final Frontier was the one. I would not be surprised to see Godolphin or Al Shaqab move in for the son of Dream Ahead after the impressive start to his career.
Final Frontier has an entry in the National Stakes and looks like someone will be willing to pay more than the 37,000 Euros he cost as a yearling.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 27, 2015 at 16:25 #1116979Looking at the colours I thought he was running for Godolphin!

But yeah the way he burst through them was highly impressive. A colt with a serious future for sure.

Ballydoyle is 20/1 for the Oaks with Totesport and Betfred.Well spotted Steve, just had a Tenner e/w with BetFred for starters.
How High The Moon entered the Oaks betting this week at 25/1
This Fastnet Rock filly out of a Sadlers Wells mare is entered up over 6f at Naas on Wednesday and holds an entry in the Moyglare later in the season.
Just four fillies in the betting for the Oaks and they are all from the O’Brien yard. Alice Springs is the narrow favourite in these very early days indeed.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 9, 2015 at 16:58 #1127069Very impressive debut by the Johnston filly Luminere in the 2nd division of the fillies maiden today.
Well backed and always travelling well, she destroyed them in a penultimate furlong of 10.65 seconds, almost a half second quicker than the winner of the 1st division managed.
that’s the most impressive maiden winner I’ve seen so far this season, and the only hope now is that she doesn’t get brought up by godolphin which is such a death knell for so many promising young horses
July 9, 2015 at 17:11 #1127071What was so impressive about the final furlong time was that the jockey didn’t move a muscle.

July 10, 2015 at 15:08 #1128275Lumiere was super impressive. I had heard a wee whisper that she was good and mentioned her in Thursday’s Newmarket preview. No sign of her being unable to step up to at least 7f this year and she looks to me that she will get a mile next year. The question will be about now adding substance to the form and then proving that she can progress as well as some of the O’Brien blue bloods over the winter.
Talking of which, Ballydoyle is out at Newmarket tomorrow and is back into maiden company. She surely needs to win this and win it well in order to take the first steps towards the lofty ambitions her breeding demands. She will be well short tomorrow and should win unless there is a real star lurking in there.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I heard Aiden’s brain ticking over and I’m sure his mind told him that Lumiere was the best filly he has Never trained.

I am sure he will be watching Johnston’s filly with interest next time. Lumiere probably beat trees in her maiden but it was effortless and she has certainly excited the stable.
For all that, it’s rare for Mark Johnston to have a filly actually line up with a serious chance by the time the Guineas comes around, so I probably wouldn’t back her for that reason.
Tanaka doesn’t look great value. Yes she beat Alice Springs impressively but I have a feeling the O’Brien filly was below par that night and she also has more of a progressive physique to her. Tanaka for the Oaks looks poor value to me. There are questions on the trip front and whether she will train on as well as some over the winter.
How High The Moon impressed me as an Oaks sort on her debut. To me she looks a better prospect than full sister Diamondsandrubies but that remains to be seen of course.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 12, 2015 at 22:32 #1170701Would we expect Lumiere to still be in Johnson care as a three year old?
Another performance like her debut in a better class race will surely see her shipped off to one of the boys in blue’s trainers.August 13, 2015 at 07:16 #1170714I think she’ll stay with Johnston if that happens.
Buratino did and the ones purchased from Hannon’s yard and a few other yards have stayed with their original trainers recently aswell.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
August 13, 2015 at 17:42 #1170770I was under the impression that Johnson was signed up to be somewhat of a feeder trainer of two year olds for Godolphin? Similar to how David Loader was back in the early days.
August 13, 2015 at 18:37 #1170772So will Buratino not be with Johnston next year then?

August 21, 2015 at 19:14 #1178962With Lumiere out to 20/1 we could have a new favourite for the Guineas on Saturday evening.
The Debutante stakes at The Curragh sees three of O’Briens clash with other promising sorts and if we believe the betting, Ballydoyle is the one who is going to win it.
Joseph rides her instead of Alice Springs or Minding and she has been installed a warm favourite for the race at a general 6/4.
She has progressed and got off the mark in her maiden without fuss, which she really needed to do last time. Winners have come out of all her races and I am not so sure that she is more of an Oaks filly as some have said. I think a mile at Newmarket will be enough and it’s all about progress and how good she actually is. We should find out on both fronts tomorrow.
I thought Alice Springs looked very promising first time up but she was beaten at Evens fav next time. No disgrace as Dermot Weld’s Tanaza went on to become favourite for both Classics in the aftermath and I feel surprised that Alice Springs is 5/1 for the Debutante and I wonder what price she would be had Joseph opted for her?
Minding won her maiden well after also chasing Tanaza home, she looks third string and is 8/1 here.
Most Beautiful is the leading non O’Brien trained runner and is a player for David Wachman, while it is a measure of the race here that a Jim Bolger trained filly Shady Leaf comes here 1 for 1 and is 20/1

It could be that Ballydoyle is the new favourite for the Guineas if the odds for the Debutante prove correct and she will be less than 10/1 if she wins by a couple of lengths.
At the odds I would back Alice Springs each-way at 5/1 with the dead eight runners, I can’t see her out of the three here under Seamie.
Earlier on the card stable mate Coolmore starts her career and is hot favourite. She kicks off in Found’s maiden from last season and it is over a mile, normally more indicative of a staying type but Found went into the winter as Guineas favourite before running out of time and disappointing thus far this year.
A good plate of fare on the juvenile front and big changes could be afoot in the Guineas betting.
ps Lumiere is being talked of as a potential Breeder’s Cup runner and I don’t like that as a preparation for the the Guineas. Some of O’Brien’s juveniles have gone there and won, only to sink without trace the following season. Just ask Jonibake about George Vancouver. Outstrip was much the same story the year after and Wrote was the same for O’Brien the previous year. Chriselliam was the same tale of woe for the fillies after winning the Breeders Cup race at two and it’s not a race that would be on my agenda if I felt I had a filly with a Classic chance. Perhaps the money is worth the risk but I would be well against her if she takes to the concrete in the name of commerce.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

20/1 won’t last.
