I still think this race is one-way traffic but a wonderful guide for middle-distance and Oaks horses in the near future.
But RV is not worth backing anymore.

Rainbow View very much had the look of a two-year-old to me and, whilst there’s no evidence to suggest that she won’t train on, I have the feeling that some might just improve past her. She was made to work by Fantasia in the Fillies’ Mile and the time of the race, whilst below standard, wasn’t spectacular in comparison to other races on the same card (the 99-rated Eva’s Request, albeit a three-year-old at the time, ran the mile only 0.27s slower than Rainbow View but carried 8lb more).
She’s a massive lay for me.
Other than Serious Attitude, Proportional has to be afforded real consideration. She only scraped home over seven furlongs at Chantilly, but showed improved form when stepped back up to a mile at Longchamp and looks tailor-made for the rising finish at Newmarket. From what I remember she was also a sizeable filly, so you would have to be hopeful that she’d come back a better horse at three.
February 10, 2009 at 06:24 #209406I still have a liking for Moineach and Dream The Impossible at decent prices, think both should like newmarket and thought both looked more like potential 3yos than 2yos last season.
Serious Attitude would be my main fancy, but think Fantasia in the Oaks at 12s would be my main fancy of all the classic anteposters.
February 10, 2009 at 15:54 #209431Rainbow View hasn’t got a rating good enough to win a Guineas yet. What horse has this filly ever beaten that has any sort of decent rating or won any sort of decent / top class race? Yes she won the fillies mile but not by half the track and not in a manor that suggested she was miles ahead of her field. Rainbow Views other wins were in poor fields quality wise.
I actually have Serious Attitude rated one pound above her but neither have form that suggests they will win a Guineas.
Something could come from nowhere to beat them. Similar could be said of the 2000 Guineas I don’t have a strong fancy for either race.
February 10, 2009 at 15:57 #209432I don’t even think Rainbow View will be in the first 2. I really hope the French filly who won the Marcel Boussac comes over and expect her to be in the frame if she does. As for Rainbow View, she gave me the impression of being a 2 year old who did not have a great deal of scope and who connections got the best out of knowing that was her time. As much as I like Gosden, I also think the fact he’s won the Fillies mile so often in recent years yet none of them went on to win a classic is a bit of a worry.
I’m gonna wait for the trials and even early season maidens before making my mind up, but am very unlikely to be backing Rainbow View.
Read the title of the thread, then posted without reading any other posts but it would seem that many others share my opinions on RV, and Proportional is the French filly I’m thinking of.February 11, 2009 at 04:15 #209590Proportional looks to be taking the French Guineas route if reports are to be believed, guys
March 29, 2009 at 19:14 #219116I think we may have seen the first major challenger to Rainbow View today.
Kevin Manning rode Maoineach perfectly today in the 1000 Guineas trial at Leopardstown to beat Heart Shaped going away.
Maoineach was part of the Proportional win at the Arc meeting but got no trip at all eventually finishing 2 lengths behind Again. That was her 2nd ever start (1st start was a winning maiden).
Jim Bolger obviously thinks a hell of a lot of this filly and she also seems to have the New Approach-temprament.
I was a massive fan of N/A and I really think this filly could be something special
March 29, 2009 at 19:27 #219123Already had a little go on Moineach and Blas Ceoil and would be hopeful that a winter behind them and good ground at newmarket should see them better, but think that Serious Attitude and Aspen Darling would look to be over priced.
I’d probably say Serious Attitude would be the one I’d fancy most to win.
I hope so Halfway, was a decent performance today…

Something special, on the back of today’s performance? She won well, but that’s absurd. I would argue that Heart Shaped isn’t worth her rating of 110 anyway, but it was fairly obvious that she was in desperate need of the race (whereas Jim Bolger really has hit the ground running).
That said, Bolger’s comment (after her debut last August) that Maoineach clocked 10.1s for a furlong in training does provoke interest. Will she stay a mile at Newmarket?

Not just on the back of today, Equi.
I’m firmly of the opinion that Jim Bolger wouldnt have sent this filly to run in a group 1 as her second ever race if he didnt believe there was something there and today she started to show why there’s confidence surrounding her.
That was a decent effort and I feel there will be more to come over a mile. She seemed to be more comfortable on the straight that in the earlier part of the race today and I just wonder whether Newmarket might suit her.
JBs horses have definitely hit the ground running. Another of his that took my eye both last week and this week is Three Rocks. Misses the break on both occasions and still hacks up! What will happen when Three Rocks doesnt miss the break?
March 29, 2009 at 20:45 #219129Also, just adding on from that.
I’m really interested that Metamorphosis is Maoineach’s ‘pony’.
This might be me over-reacting as I was a massive fan of New Approach (and Henry) last year but I just get that niggling feeling theres more to come from this one.

I wouldnt be getting too carried away with that. The time was about 4 lengths slower than the 56 rated exposed 5yo handicapper managed in the following race. The Guineas quote is a joke.
March 30, 2009 at 00:25 #219164The 16/1 on offer you mean?
Compared to the 40/1 on offer for Lush Lashes last year.
It is pretty poor value to be honest on what she’s proven already but if she’s anywhere near that on the day I’ll be tempted to take it.
March 30, 2009 at 00:50 #219171I wouldn"t bet that "Proportional" wont turn up for our 1000 gns and if she does, she will beat that little "Rainbow view" who i doubt will have improved
from being a very good 2yo! Proportional is a miler so the French oaks wont be on her agenda even if she did stay at home for their 1000 gns!
Madame Head used to love to bring her fillies over here and this one is
potentially in the "Miesque" class!March 30, 2009 at 00:56 #219173I reckon Bolger knows she isn’t Group 1 material and is trying to recoup some of the big money he gave after her impressive breeze at the sales and get some black type into the bargain, which is why she was cherry ripe today. No way she would have been as wound up today if she was a live Newmarket prospect, its not Bolgers style. Cutting his losses imo, the time she ran today was hopeless.
March 30, 2009 at 02:06 #219183The slow pace is surely a good thing Cav in respect of the speed she would have needed to win, and the way she pulled through them and pushed clear with such ease going strongly right to the line.
FWIW Jim Bolger didnt have either Saoirse Abu or Lush Lashes anywhere near ready this time last year (and look at how they went on guineas day) and I would think Maoineach is actually a very decent filly. Only concern with her would be how she travelled in the Marcel Boussac on what was meant to be a fast surface.
I dont think targetting smaller races with these sorts would be as much Bolgers cup of tea as many of the others, and I think he would generally prefer to go straight to newmarket (as per New Approach and Finsceal Beo, and as was the plan with Teofilo) but will run them prior to it if he thinks they need it as part of their prep.
It is pretty fair to expect that he was always going to give Maoineach a prep run, what with having only run twice as a juvenile, but it would be unwise IMO to write off a filly who won a 2yo 6f group3 on debut and now has a trial win under her belt. Lush Lashes showed a similar level of class on debut in 07 and look what she went on to do.
The fact remains, that she has only run three times and has now won 2 group 3s and run way below par in a group 1. Not a bad record IMO.
Is 16-1 really that short on one that looks to have so much class? IMO no.

The time was poor, the runner-up wasn’t straight, her (Maoineach) stamina is questionable and Cuis Ghaire is far the more likely of Bolger’s pair to run at Newmarket – 16/1 is ludicrous.
