As for Speciosa, trainer feels it will not be suited by The Curragh but will stay 10f.
Apparently owners turned down offer of $1.1m but are likely to sell at end of this season.
May 7, 2006 at 20:13 #71797Emily Bronte misses the Oaks through a setback, as does Chenchikova (very likely that Chenchikova won’t race, although not 100% certain).
May 7, 2006 at 20:14 #71799Hopefully an Oaks trial will throw up something with a bit of potential, Scottish Stage perhaps? Otherwise it looks a s**t
e renewal, even worse than last year.May 7, 2006 at 20:45 #71801[The Jockey steered it left today. I didn’t see it hang today. ]
I think it was the mare that wanted to go that way but sensibly the jock complied…..much as he did in her last race. You would have to think the tendency would rule her out of a whole range of possible engagements.
The oaks?? I dont know. I cant see why people are sure she wont get the distance when she could clearly be expected to get 10 furlongs.
What do the Coronation Stakes and Nassau have in common with the Irish Guineas?
I’m guessing they’re all run on right-handed courses:)
May 8, 2006 at 09:16 #71803Of course it was a nice result and i suspect the winner will continue to be underated, but some hefty disappointments…
I didnt have a bet, but wonder if ground was totally the reason for the poor performances of the market leaders? Soft at Newmarket isnt exactly bottomless and one trainer was saying they "were going through it ok". Rumple probably just needs further and isnt perhaps top quality but has Flashy wings trained on?
May 8, 2006 at 10:16 #71804Rumplestiltskin hardly finished full of running as horses that need further often do in the Guineas did she? I think part of the problem is she hasn’t developed all that well over the winter, still looking rather small and it may be a case that she hasn’t developed quite so well from 2 to 3.
I’ll be very surprised if Flashy Wings doesn’t put this behind her on a firmer surface.
May 8, 2006 at 11:29 #71805Yeah DJ, Flashy will get a mile on firm ground I’m certain.
The Oaks does look extremely poor this year. Emily and Chench are out, basically 2 of the main attractions. Really haven’t got a clue who’s the winner – not sure about Alexandrova yet.
May 8, 2006 at 17:10 #71806Rumple came into season the night before.
Newmarket would need to be under a foot of water to be "soft", but many gallopers with daisy c actions slip on the actual loose, good-soft. Winner put up a brave performance from the front and kept on very well. Daft of trainer not to run her on RH tracks as the rail or other horses to the left will keep S in check for a very minor hanging (the horse).
May 8, 2006 at 21:52 #71807Looking at the breeding and achievements of the current oaks entries, I would say that the winner will come out of these 8.
Alexandrova – Will stay. 9.2 on BF.
Chenchikova – Will stay, but probably misses the race. 42 on BF.
Makderah – Should stay. 60 on BF.
Reunite – Should stay. 34 on BF.
Riyalma – Should stay (looked as if any extra distance would be relished) 11.5 on BF.
Sacrosanct – Should stay. 50 on BF.
Snow Crystal – Every single inch and further. This is my selection right now. 120 on BF.
Taranto – Will stay. 110 on BF.
