Well! Before today’s Nunthorpe, what was the last 100-1 Group 1 winner??
August 20, 2010 at 14:43 #313802Arcangues?? Though he was closer to 150/1
August 20, 2010 at 14:46 #313804It doesn’t strictly qualify, but I just said to someone that that reminded me of Norton’s Coin (100/1-winner of Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1990). In that I have absolutely no idea how to explain the result!
August 20, 2010 at 14:48 #313805Nortons Coin. Well, Grade One, Group One, same thing
I’m sure there must be another one since then though.
August 20, 2010 at 14:48 #313806Sorry Pru, hadn’t noticed your post

That horse that won the oaks about 15 years ago, can’t think of the name
August 20, 2010 at 15:33 #313817Toylsome won the Foret at 100/1 in 2007. He’s the only other 100/1 GP1 winner on the flat in the last 15 years.
Surprising result but that’s the beauty of racing. Another good result for DBS, looks a bargain now at 32 grand. How did it get past the Hannon’s.
August 20, 2010 at 15:43 #313818What about Hitite Glory?

That was Jet Ski Lady. I think she was 50-1 although she may have been 100-1 in the morning because I think she shortened up because of the heavy ground.

Thanks for the answers so far. I was really after the last Group 1 100-1 winner in
England
. Hittite Glory 1975 in that rare case of a Gp.1 Flying Childers seems to be it. Any more recent ideas?
August 20, 2010 at 16:14 #313825Why are you bothered who cares

I still remember watching the race, was it really 35 years ago? Damn, I feel old …

That’s not very nice Matthew. If Pinza wants to know that’s all that matters. Now say you’re sorry, there’s a good boy.

no sorry Ken, Pinza knows very well that he has a dig at me’ quite often on here.
Anyway, the reason I said this was threads like this would bore the …. Out of the young racing crowd Cormack is trying to attract,
We want young, fun people on here rather than boring people

Why are you bothered who cares
1a.
Because I have a relish of history and tradition, both of which enhance my enjoyment of Horse Racing.
1b.
Because I have a natural curiosity about such things, and respect for the wide knowledge of TRF members.
2.
Lots of people evidently care – I see the Betfair Forum has been enjoying a similar thread.
So the
real
question, my dear chap, is: "Why don’t
you
?"
Perhaps you might give the matter some … er, thought?

No offence to you Pinza but this sort of thing isn’t my cup of tea, sorry for commenting.

So, where does that leave Nathan Hughes, Matthew?
