How quick was Regional out of the stalls. He was a length up in a few strides but watched it in ultra slow motion and the gates opened the same but his head was out before all the others.
The more I know the less I understand.
June 10, 2023 at 14:58 #1651143That was a lightning start. Hadn’t seen a horse start that fast since a sprinter called Brondesbury in the early 80s.
June 11, 2023 at 03:21 #1651175Ghost of Rob v , bang on the mark with Brondesbury , one of fastest horses ive seen , over 3 furlongs just burned the track . Saw him the other night when I was you tubing old Temple Stakes when it was at Sandown . The 1983 King George is a good one to re watch , he blazes a trail , then Soba goes on to win. Added bonus is the great Jimmy Lindley talking beforehand . Takes me right back hearing his voice .
I wonder how Brondesbury times over first 2 stack up with a US quarter horse .June 11, 2023 at 09:03 #1651182Spot on – I remember Brondesbury well.
He flew out the gates in the Norfolk, but it’s a stiff five at Ascot and he only just hung on: https://youtu.be/cIIKu-W5NvY

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 11, 2023 at 10:57 #1651194Brondesbury was sent to stud in OZ , no champions I can find in his offspring but he produced a tough horse called Toybury , ran from 92 to 99 , 58 runs for 16 wins and 13 seconds . Mainly ran at provincials in Victoria and city class Adelaide . Won from 5 furlongs up , somehow they stretched him out to win at 10 furlongs at Morpheteville one day . Staying power from dams side is my gut feeling .
June 11, 2023 at 12:17 #1651201Kachy would be a recent example of a horse that bolted out of the gates regularly
I remember he was drawn widest of all at Chester in a 5f sprint, didn’t matter he was in front after 50 yards and race was over.
June 11, 2023 at 13:27 #1651209I doubt anything has been as quickly out of the traps as Man Of Cash was in the Greyhound Derby Quarter Final in 2003.

When Brondesbury won the Great Surrey Stakes on Derby Day in 1982, he crushed Dorset Eagle by 10 lengths in a scorching time of 55.42 seconds.
June 12, 2023 at 10:06 #1651288I cannot find it on googling but iam sure in 80s a QH either raced a TB at Epsom as a gimmick or it was on its own trying to break the land speed record . Iam sure I saw it as a bit on LWT news or BBC London .
Stone of Folca ran 53.69
From what I can make out the QH record over 440 yards is 20.274 , the 1100 yard trip seems a rarity but at Sam Houston the record is 58.34 . Dirt v downhill grass I know .June 12, 2023 at 21:12 #1651332I vaguely recall some woman trainer (in the ’80s) bragging that a horse she had named Klute could run 44mph…
June 12, 2023 at 21:23 #1651335Bang on Ghost , thats it !!! Klute , i think it was named after film or film character .
