I very much liked horses as a boy but liked chickens better. They were chirpy as chips and ran just as fast and I remember one very brown chicken with a very red hanging thing, or was it stuck on its head ? Anyway,I liked it better than all the rest of the funny footed gang I got to know on the farm in that extremely hot summer of 48 that reached a 100 degrees That bird had a certain cluckety cluckety cluck sort of cleverness about it that put it in a different class to all the other lazy dumb fookers on benefits – the egg layers.
They told me I was a late developer but I don’t use that as an excuse, and it’s’s a great disappointment to me personally, and my dear feathered friends, that I have spent the vast majority of my adult life eating them, often on a day of rest.
I will endeavour to make amends for my sinning ways, to spend the remainder of my adult years contrite and in penance – just eating boiled.
