“Great to see York promoted, always a good away fixture to take in.”
Agree, I wanted York to go up. An equaliser in the 13th minute of added time, after Rochdale had scored in the 95th minute and there was a pitch invasion! That must have caused all the extra added time, which only served to help York. I may try to take in a game there next season.
Unfortunately Prescot Cables, the team my grandfather supported along with Everton, were relegated from the Northern Premier League. They beat Bamber Bridge 2-0 but a draw for Whitby Town ensured the Yorkshire team stayed up instead.
Bury won the NPL West and will play in the Northern Premier League next season. Their march back to the Football League continues, although there is a story attached.
At the start of the day, Bury were 2 points clear of Avro. A win would obviously see them promoted. If they drew, Avro would be level on points if they won but could only overtake Bury if they won by a margin of 11 goals.
Avro’s opponents were the already relegated Darlaston, a team with nothing to play for. And sure enough, Avro beat them 13-0!
Bury’s win meant it didn’t matter. But just how hard were Darlaston trying? The NPL must have to hold the equivalent of a stewards enquiry.
