It’s sad to see that another one of these memorial threads has ended up with a number of heated comments being made.
The initial post here stated that there was something clearly amiss with Winter Solace from an early stage in the race. Maybe it is not what was intended, but this could easily be interpreted to mean that the jockey should have pulled up sooner and was responsible for the horse’s sad demise.
Regardless of what was meant, the comment was a form of analysis and opinion, and therefore invited further discussion. It’s fair to say that Griff’s responses can sometimes be rather combative, but I suspect that this is in part out of frustration that he keeps being told that this section is not the place for debate, yet other views seem to be allowed to be stated without challenge.
Some of the observations made have the potential to paint racing and the deceased horse’s connections in a very poor light, so I think it is entirely fair that respectful debate occurs when this is the case.
