My Husband was there yesterday and Quantique was just winded and definitely stood up and walked away, and the commentator even commented on this. But did not hear or see any news on Peaks of Fire.
I was there today, and indeed it was a heavy fall at the last flight. We knew straight away also, but at least he didn’t suffer, as it was very quick. RIP old boy.
I fear he was not the only loss on this day. We feared earlier in the second race for Boston Globe whom also fell at the last, albeit not as heavily, and thankfully he rose after being winded. But not such good news in the fifth race, when after the race, the well backed favourite (Dirleton) collapsed by the entrance to the parade ring, and we believe did not recover. And in the same race, the horse that finished third (Turbolinas), also left in a horse ambulance, but we think it was only injured. We have fingers crossed that he is alright.Cydonia is sadly gone-looked like a heart attack after the race, stable girl was devastated. Gallik Dawn walked into the horse ambulance and not the dreaded other one, and we saw it return to the racecourse stables and walk out, which may or may not be good news. Braddock Island pulled up sharply, and looked terrible, but after randomly being wierdly unsound on its back end, eventually started to walk ok again, and it could have been a fit, or back spasm, but he did not enter either horse ambulance or other, and walked back to stables, so we hope he is ok. Hope this is useful info, as can only say what we saw in person last night.
It was a terrible fall, and the screens were up for almost an hour, whilst they were working on him. RIP warrior.
Connak also seemed to have been a sad fatality after Midlands Grand National. Collapsed in front of the stands after the gruelling race, and water was being thrown on him, until the screens were eventually erected. Sadly he was taken away in the horse ambulance, and things did not look good. Any news anyone? -
