“…it’s all about making the wrong move at the right time…”
Arguably, the greatest poker scene ever.
Congrats to the winners!…
Congrats SP! She made it look easy at the end…
Agree with your points, GT. But her form doesn’t really strike me as being a pure sprinter. However, both Perfect Power and Flaming Rib just tanked. Perhaps the Royal Ascot race had taken its toll?
Thank you for your politeness, Chiv. I sit corrected..
Modern Games.
He was supposed to be in New York today, according to comments made by C. Appleby following his race in France. But, they’ve sent Nations Pride instead. Could this be MG’s “prep” for the Juddmonte Stakes next month?…
Flaming Rib.
Second by about 1L to PP at Royal Ascot last time out. He’s certainly talented enough to reverse the form here…
The ‘Dog in the Derby, although it looks like he may need a strong pace to run at.
New Year’s Eve in the Oaks. Impressed in her last race. This race seems more competitive of the two…
“Sunak doing a video in dec is a huge plus. You definitely want someone with a plan and the ambition and why not make it clear that this has been the objective for some time….”
Of course. Then scheme and plot over the next six months on how to stab your leader in the back. Well done, Brutus!
I appreciate that, GT. I’m totally familiar with the process. I live in a country whose political and democratic parliamentary process is based on the British system. In fact, The Queen is our official Head of State. So, I don’t need the lectures…
Yes, GT. And he was the MP, is(was) he not?
Clive,
I totally understand your point, however what if this scenario plays out over and over and over again in the future? What should the people think/do where their leader, whom they democratically elected, being “toppled” by a minority of civil servants some of whom may not have even been elected? Where’s the democratic process here?…
It’s a very sad day indeed not only in British democracy but in Democracy in general. From country that gave to the world perhaps its greatest gift, the Magna Carta, now has shown to the same world how to successfully carry out a coup without firing a single bullet in sharp contrast to a banana republic: in this instance the coup was carried out by civil servants whereas in the latter case its carried out by the military servants, but both cases have a common goal to topple the democratically elected leader(s).
Whether you like Boris Johnson or not, he was elected by the people and only the people have a democratic right through the election process to either re-elect him or not. People maybe rejoicing at the outcome but, sadly, for the wrong reason entirely…
“…But it is only ever the protestors who get to decide what is wrong…”
In my view, it’s not the protestors who are the decision makers in this and similar situations. Protestors have a right to assembly and protest to state their views provided it’s carried out lawfully. However, I take exception to the “real” decision makers, the censors, the universal baby-sitters who cower behind their public titles, whether elected or appointed, and decisions based not on the will of the majority but only to appease the few. That’s the real problem with today’\s decision makers!
Moreover, did the Lancaster Council have any legal grounds to cancel his show? What right do they have to prevent him from making a living? He should challenge this ruling in court.
I’m guessing here, but I would wager that his act is tame compared to what went on in the seventies and the eighties. Yet, the world survived!
Please re-read my original commentary above. My specific reference is to comments made about Bay Bridge prior to his race at Ascot (i.e. in the Prince of Wales), and not prior to this race,
Congrats to the winners, Vademi ran well to win this. I was very impressed with Native Trail’s run who stretched out to 10F for the first time. May improve next time out over the same distance…
It’s a bit odd to read a few negative comments about Bay Bridge. However, no such comments were to be found anywhere prior to him taking on the Cox Plate winner at Ascot. One would have thought it was the second coming! Now all the experts are coming out with their post-race clairvoyance…
I’m surprised that Modern Games is not here, he would have liked the conditions. Apparently he’s also not in America to contest the Belmont Derby Invitational, instead the connection sent Nation Pride. I hope all is well with MG…
In my view, Vadeni is way overrated based solely on his last race. First of all, I don’t believe Buick should have gone for the lead with Modern games especially from stall 13 in the bog. The horse is not a front-runner and he was pressed on his outside throughout. Despite that, he stayed well (3rd) under the circumstances and I wonder whether Vadeni would have won by 5 lengths if he had to make all from stall 13. Highly unlikely, he would have been dead last by 5!…
Native Trail, for me…
Well, ID, what it means to me is that you must have had presented your argument in a most intelligent and articulate manner to deserve an “A”…congrats!
