Mike, can I ask what you made of the ground at Cartmel on Monday?
0.18s/f (good)

They are supplied by the firm who name is a famous south American river, then they are bought and adapted by private individuals with add-ons.
Using my USB firestick I was just watching Lovejoy on Drama, and the listed 2yo race at Sandown on RUK, I paid £64 for my firestick, I have even added my own stuff on the firestick, plenty of tutorials on YouTube on the subject.Mike.
Gingertipster – Do you think any race was truly run, Mike?
No…
Top Speed has the the going as firm at +0.40s/f, when we agree there is a 0.10s/f difference between us.Mike.
Virgin Media sent me a a customer service email this morning, on all the category’s I put zeros, in the comments box I typed “what the point”.
Some of the channels they removed you can view on freeview is this not taken the piss, being a resourceful person I bought one of those special firesticks off Ebay, setup wifi job sorted every channel at my disposal.
We all know that ATR in its current format is coming to an end in 2019, no problem get yourself a firestick.
With regards to BBC problem with on demand channels, if you watch television only using on demand, you do not require a television license, which is a rip off at £152 just to watch terrestrial television live.
These days I rarely watch racing on television, there is far too much racing, in 2019 there will be 1,511 meetings in the calendar.
Mike.
Due to the small fields at Bath yesterday, not one race dipped under RP standard time, this resulted in my going allowance being +0.49s/f (Firm)
+0.50s/f (firm)
+0.25s/f (good to firm)
0.00s/f (good)
-0.25s/f (good to soft)
-0.50s/f (soft)
-0.75s/f (soft to heavy)
-1.0s/f (heavy)Mike.
Bath going described as “Firm-hard in places” tomorrow.
The Racing Post are more diplomatic when it comes to publishing going allowance descriptions, for example if the going was hard, “Top Speed” will have his going allowance as “Firmx”.
“There is no doubt in my mind that Salouen put in a big career best as he was running on soft ground over 12f for the first time and was given a masterful ride by SDS. Time will obviously tell but it could well be that Cracksman put in a mid 120’s performance in winning that race….”

“What I meant by the opening post was that normally I’d expect a considerable Epsom stand rail bias on soft or heavy. I’d be interested to know if that is your experience?”
With the nature of the track and the famous camber, I don’t think I could honestly answer that question.
What did surprise me, in the Oaks they crossed over and came up the home straight on the stand side, in the Derby they stuck to the normal route along the far rail with the camber.Mike.
“Anyone else think the stand rail had an even greater advantage than usual at this meeting (considering it was far from bottomless)?”
Most racing professional or “the sheep” as I refer to them, wouldn’t know what a going allowance was, did any of them realise that the official going was soft on Friday then on Saturday is was given out as good, did they pull the plug out?
On Friday I had the going on the slow side of good at -0.13s/f, on Saturday I had track riding at +0.12s/f (good).
Friday’s rail movements at Epsom:
Rails: Rail out from 1m to winning post, effect on distances as follows; 6f +8y 7f +10y All races 1m+ +12y
8yds = 0.53s
10yds = 0.66s
12yds = 0.8sAs for Cracksman, there was nothing wrong with his run earning the top speed figure on the day of 89 which was 1lb better than Masar’s Derby figure of 88, for the record I do not use WFA as it corrupts my speed figures.
Going allowance table:
Firm +0.50s/f
Good to firm +0.25s/f
Good 0.00s/f
Good to soft -0.25s/f
Soft -0.50s/f
Soft to heavy -0.75s/f
Heavy -1.00s/f (there is no limit to heavy, I have had the going at Cork (IRE) at -3.20s/f (bottomless)FlatTurf2018: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Fo12vn11NrT1mgHKBMY71hZqY0q_dok8

You are spot on with your assessment that it was Billesdon Brook’s turn of foot that won her the day, off a slow pace.
The problem you now have, if she was to run at Royal Ascot where races are run at true pace, she won’t make the frame, and will probably start off as a false favourite.
With regards to the official going allowances, if I ever meet a professional that understands the subject I will be very surprised, it took me two years of study and rating thousands of meetings to even grasp the basics, as a rule of thumb on the flat I would use.
Fast +0.50s/f
Good to firm +0.25s/f
Good +0.00s/f
Good to slow -0.25s/f
Soft -0.50s/f
Soft to heavy -0.75s/f
Heavy -1.00s/fSo in retrospect, I had the going at +0.10s/f (good) which was slower than the official going of good to firm +0.25s/f.
Mike.
The 1000 Guineas speed figures must have been some of the slowest recorded time wise, they went no pace, as Johnny Murtagh stated.
The racing professionals were scratching their heads trying to work out how Billesdon Brook managed to win the 1000 Guineas, on the clock the race was bad, she managed a speed figure from me of 74, which a moderate class 5 runner could achieve on the AW.
They had the official going as good to firm, my calculations had it down as +0.10s/f (good) which did surprise me as it was very warm yesterday.
To produce big speed figures and try to emulate the RPR’s figures, I see that “Top Speed” has preliminary awarded Billesdon Brook a speed figure of 103 using a going allowance of -0.16s/f which is heading for good to soft, if you believe the going was on the slow side of good yesterday please seek help.

What a disaster, the Champion hurdle at Punchestown was the one race where we could finally assess the true class of Samcro, and eliminate the hype.
The winner Supasundae equalled his best speed figure of 129, which puts him only 7lbs behind Buveur D’Air best figure of 136, what Melon or Samcro would have achieved against the clock in this race we will only have to guess.
Going allowance -0.87s/f (soft).

I was very disappointed with the Craven winner Masar, the speed figure of 71 that he earned was only average, this years Craven must have been very weak.

At last, proper flat turf racing starting today with the Craven meeting at Newmarket, you know it has started, Frankie Dettori has got out of bed and has some booked rides.
I been trying to put together a set of speed figures for the 2018 flat turf, it has not been easy due to the continuous very heavy going conditions in Ireland, especially at Cork where the meeting on the 15th April 2018 went off the scale at -3.15s/f (quagmire), the two worse going allowances I have ever recorded both came from Cork…
