I would say that racing is about 30% bent, but given the choice of votes I will have to go with the 70%

I’m with the each way merchants on this one.
I don’t see much point in backing 3/1 shots each way as a single bet but I would do them in each way multiples without hesitation.
One type of bet that I often do is 5 x £1 each way fours and a £1 each way accumulator. or sometimes 7 x£1 six’s and a £1 each way accumulator.
When placing this type of bet I am looking for horses that in my opinion cannot be out of the frame. I have had some great returns using this method without finding a single winner. I also have a chance of fluking a great win bet at the same time.
You cannot relate value to the number of runners in a race, how can 6/4 be value in a 10 horse race? how can 1/2 be value in a 18 runner race?
It comes down to your personal selection, if you think there is some value on offer about your selection you will back it, if not you won’t.
I understand the point Daylight is making, I just disagree, I think it comes down to personal choice.
If I didn’t have a bet on any race because the bookies had things in their favour, I would only have about 3 bets a year, and Irish racing would be a complete no go area.

There was an interesting debate on the channel 4 site as to which was the better out of Dubai Millenium and Montjeu. I think Montjeu just came out best by about 60% to 40%. Personally I would have had one of my largest ever bets if they had raced each other, I am convinced that Montjeu would have easily beaten Dubai Millenium at 10 furlongs if both horses were at their best.
At a mile and a half I think Montjeu would have murdered him.
Just my opinion.
I was wondering why Jim missed out Troy in his most impressive Derby winners list, but he did say he had been watching for the last 22 years and I think Troy was 23 Derby’s ago. Maybe I should read more carefully in future.

I agree that Jim had to defend his rating of the Godolphin horses but his reply to Steve M was a bit arrogant if you ask me. This would be acceptable if he really did know far more than anyone else, but I have seen him made to look a fool (like the rest of us) on a number of occasions on tv over the years and so I did not expect his answer to be as it was.
My own question was a bit tongue in cheek and he avoided answering by claiming he didn’t understand it. Yeh, allright Jim I believe you.
Maybe Jim didn’t expect so many questions as he seemed to keep some of his replies very short. Having said that I think he deserves credit for agreeing to answer all the questions, even if we did not all get the answer we expected.

Thanks Escorial and good luck to you as well. I have really stuggled to come up with anything today but hopefully one or two of these will go close.
