I don’t know if I’d consider Barney Curley a genius – having a horse unplaced in a long series of races and then landing a big gamble in a competitive handicap generally raises a few eyebrows.  Reg Akehurst was a man I used to follow in, particularly when he took a horse from another trainer.  You wouldn’t go far wrong following the money with Sir Mark Prescott – he knows how to place his horses.
