Im a big fan of the horse…he looks fantastic but the only word of caution is that I dont really think an awful lot of the horses he has beaten. Its a pity we didnt see a match between him and Denman (or Nicanor) but definitly agree that he looks best.

I dont think Jonjo is seriously considering the champion hurdle though.

    I wouldnt begrudge Garvivonian EC

    strange comment?

Harry, do you begrudge anyone else the winner?

Irish used expression meaning I would like to see him win. :)

I wouldnt begrudge Garvivonian EC. I backed at 80’s the when he won last time over the track and I have to admit he wasnt stopping that day either. Not sure it was a great race. Might be better at this trip even…

Ive had a small flutter ew on Direct access, Ross comm and Tyne and Tyne again but to frank, Im completely Mug Punting.

Ok… I strongly fancied Sir Rembrandt as I thought he was thrown in off a light weight.

Now that he is gone, Im far less certain about any of the rest of these.

Ross Comm.. Looks a good horse with little weight. Certain to stay??????????? Im not sure.

Direct Access….His form looks useful. He is by Roselier and they tend to stay and stay strongly. I like him but he might not quite have enough class.

Like you DJ, I like this horse, Lord of Illusion but he has run poorly enough on three of his four days out this year.

Le duc and haut de gamme could both run well but perhaps the latter will stay better. If Le Duc stayed, I would fancy him very very strongly.

[…and despite being a 2m 4f horse, Red Marauder saw out the 4m 4f in grueling conditions better than a confirmed stayer in Smarty.

    Rob
]

Yeah but smarty wasnt much good was he and it was a two horse race. As for simply gifted, I backed him so there must have been somthing about him that suggested a trip might suit him.

[My way de Solzen possibly. especially if ground a bit soft. Some will carp the distance of the race, but I believe he has the class.]

Yeah but he would definitly want it softish. Class won him a poor enough stayers on ground not ideal but I would be surprised if some two miler steping up couldnt beat him in this.

Sir Oj is interesting. I think we see him as a 2 mile 4 or 2-5 horse but in truth, he does stay out those trips well. I could certainly see him getting more …but how much, I know not.

Yes, that bloody idea has been around for a long time but I would suggest a more telling statistic is that the vast majority of 2 and half milers have not stayed the distance. I suppose Crisp was the most famous to go close??

Interesting comments. I agree with the watching racing stuff….it seems obvious but I made my profit last year while I lived in Denmark and saw very few races. In fairness- i assume it was a blip.

The other thing I would say is to watch out for your own personal trends within betting. For example I have an appalling record when it comes to the citreon supreme novices at chelters and an extremely good one when it comes to the staying novices race the following day. I assume that I just understand better whats required for a horse to win this.

I have noticed some people are really good with analysing 2 year old form but Im hopeless and wouldnt touch a race like that now. Sprinters also, i keep away from.

Others have also touched on one really important aspect here. Being a small time mug punter is in some ways perhaps more enjoyable then being a serious measured better. It allows you embrace almost all the races at cheltenham and may highten your enjoyment. Once you become serious, I would imagine that it would all be completely different since youll be consigned to a watching brief only

[/Never knew ex-Arsenal payer Graham Rix was a professional punter!

It’s his new job, he started yesterday]

damm…sorry got mixed up. And the only thing i know Graham rix gets on is the sex offenders registry.
The point you make about accountants and IT people might be true but like me, I hope that was there profession before they decided to wander into punting….and probabaly isnt the other way around.

If you can make a solid profit on the horses, you could take the same skills and make more money with less stress in the "real world".

Got a tip for Choctaw nation. Was told he would be staying on anyway.

Whats the sand in Nad al sheeba like compared to where the breeders cup was held for example? Is it deeper.

You certainly wont be getting outrageously longer odds on betfair for bigger stakes.

Pro’s have to hang in there as well.
