Best of luck for tomorrow!
What an awful experience to go through!!
I bet you were chewed up enough thinking about the race without having to go through all that hassle .
When you,ve cooled down a bit ,why not write the Lord Vesty or E.Gillespie and complain about your treatment? I would. After all ,its only the cost of a stamp, and you might get some recompense or even complimentary tickets for your trouble. At least you could get it off your chest .
Robgomn, just about hit the nail on the head by mentioning that most 10f + races are always under subscribed.
The basic problem is with the bloodstock industry. Since the early 70s, it has placed an emphasis on speed, with the result that more sprinters/ milers are being bred instead of middle distance horses . Sprinters and milers tend to mature earlier and can run as 2 yr olds whereas middle distance horses tend to take more time. Naturally owners hope that by having early, precocious 2 yr olds, they can recoup some of their outlay more quickly , than have to wait that extra year until a middle distance horse matures .
With more sprinters in training (regardless of their rating) it is obvious that any sprint race is going to be oversubscribed . Yet middle distances races never have more than a handful of runners , and lowly rated horses nearly always get a run .
The answer is simple , the bloodstock industry must address this bias towards speed some point, otherwise owners will get totally disallusioned, and the thoroughbred , as a breed will decline.
Well done Amelia and all concerned. I bet you dont come down for days !!!!!
Hi Merlin
As a 2 yrs old I would have said he liked soft ground ( he beat Mr Combustible on g/s) but after his 3 yr old campaign ,there has to be ‘good to firm’ in the going for him to show his true worth.
We sent him to Southwell last year for a racecourse gallop and he enjoyed that surface ,but he trains predominently on the grass , so I have no idea whether the polytrack will suit. It seems to ride fast , so I see no reason why he shouldnt. Only time will tell as they say.
His trainer also thinks it will suit him, but he hasnt sent any runners at Lingfield since the track was overhauled,so it will be a fact finding mission on all sides

Merlin
Sorry I only saw your post this morning.
I had a horse called Futures Trader with Micky Hammond who severed his tendon at Sedgefield and had to be put to sleep. I could never go through that experience again, it was awful , and I swore that if I had another horse, I would do everything in my power that it never jumped a twig.
When I eventually decided I wanted to have another horse, which was about 6 months later, I went over to Ireland and bought Tiyoun. The rest you know.
Tiyoun is very well. He,s filled out and matured a lot through the winter and leading the 2 yr olds at the moment. He should be out in the next 3/4 weeks, possibly at Lingfield on National Day ,but we’ve got one eye on the weather ,with options at Newmarket ,Pontefact and Haydock
Ill keep you posted.
I just to prefer National Hunt, but the trauma of losing a horse, was enough for me to change codes. Now I prefer the flat
well chaps, I must be one of the few people always back each way. I must admit to betting win only on anything shorter than 3-1 , but anything over usually is an ew bet.
That way, I mightnt win as much ,but I certainly dont lose as much either.
