I really liked this horse and fancied him for the festival.
Such a shame. RIPI am deeply saddened to read this, Alph was a real favourite of mine. So sad that he never got to enjoy his retirement which was so richly deserved by such a trier.
Sleep well Alph – you deserve it xI thought the same, it did look like a heart attack to me. I could not bear to watch a replay!
RIP Gala Evening!
Many thanks for your help.
Koo – I have been involved in various syndicate/racing clubs over the last few years ranging in owning/leasing between 0.01% to 50% of a horse. To be fair all I would be looking for for my brother is an owner’s ticket when the horse runs so that he would feel he is involved in the horse and maybe a visit to the stable’s – watching racing is his only real enjoyment in life so I am sure he would love the experience of feeling he is an owner.
We are based in the Midlands.
I was at Aintree today and had no idea that this had happened, I have always followed Private Be as he hardly ever ran a bad race. Such a sad end to the day.
RIP Private Be – brave to the end!
He was a real favourite of mine too!
So young to leave us at 15, I wonder what he died of.
RIP Horus xThe fall of Lotta Present looked awful, RIP to both brave warriors!
Such sad news – he was a lovely horse.
RIP Sporazene, you were a beauty! x
I agree I am dreading it, I don’t think I can bring myself to watch the National.
Poor Schindlers Hunt, I really liked him as he always tried. RIP.x
April 3, 2010 at 21:11 in reply to: Best horse to run in but never win a "major" at cheltenham.. #287368I agree with a few on here – my choices are Well Chief, Mighty Man and Exotic Dancer.
I was just going to announce this one.
I was at Haydock today and saw Will be Done get to his feet to follow the pack but sadly discovered that he had broken his leg – poor boy!RIP
I had a soft spot for Plum Pudding too – RIP!
I’m probably not going to get the details of this right, but I’m sure someone can put me straight. Was it at Bath I think? It was
Ei Ei
running at his local course, where he was a real local favourite. He was in the lead in a hurdle race, sure to win if only he could jump the last, everyone cheering him on, and you knew from the second he hit the deck that he was stone dead. He didn’t move a muscle, and I remember how in that split second, you can go from glorious axcitement to sheer horror at what’s just happened.
I remember many more, but that was the biggest shock.I remember this too – it was awful, he never moved. I was in tears EiEi was a favourite of mine. RIP old boy
I had thought about Butlers Cabin today too and wondered why we had not seen him this year, not heard anything about him. Hope the brave lad is alright.
My favourite horse over recent years was Puntal but also have soft spots for Well Chief, Grey Abbey and Rooster Booster.
On flat I loved Persian Punch (who had the heart of a lion) and Rising Cross (who was tiny but managed to finish 2nd to Alexandrova in the 2006 Oaks).
