Sadly collapsed and died on walk way from the paddock after a creditable gutsy placing over the big Aintree fences. RIP old warrior.
Reported soon after the race by the Racing UK team in a nice sympathetic way.November 21, 2010 at 13:26 #329061Poor old boy; Hobbs looked even more downcast than usual on the BBC.
November 21, 2010 at 13:31 #329063Awful news.
RIP Private Be.
A good horse, and such a shame.
November 21, 2010 at 14:13 #329074Followed him for years; was only saying just before the race that the Hobbs team never seemed keen on running their horses over the National fences. A sad weekend; feel as if I’ve lost a couple of old and dear friends, so can’t imagine how connections must feel. RIP and condolences to all.

November 21, 2010 at 23:03 #329179I was at Aintree today and had no idea that this had happened, I have always followed Private Be as he hardly ever ran a bad race. Such a sad end to the day.
RIP Private Be – brave to the end!
November 23, 2010 at 14:52 #329421I note from the BHA website that Richard Johnson was found to have used his whip with excessive frequency on Private Be and banned accordingly. I counted up about 13 hits after the last fence…….but couldn’t bear to watch again and check.
