Not a great day out though when you back 6 horses and none even get home, as I pretty much did at haydock a couple of weeks back
No wind up
So which winning post do they use for the bumpers?
Do they create a third one?
Yes I accept longchamp is confusing too
Yes not being able to count to 3 doesn’t help either

1. Following a particular horse with your heart rather than head
It doesn’t get lots of credit usually but the free seats in the stand at haydock give a fabulous view. York gets a vote for being very accessible by train and some great racing. Like the others, I’m a massive fan of the July course.
At cheltenham champion hurdle day
Everyone had ante post vouchers on harchibald at circa 2s before he got injured
He was my fav horse by miles but I’m not really a gambler. He was circa 7s on the day but I never ever have a cheltenham winner –
Got on at 7s and made way to the packed grandstand. Wow what a race – counting my money as carberry was motionless going over the last. All the boys going bonkers thinking they’d got out of jail
Great race. Great day. Learned that day that it’s not all about winning

I went on new yrs eve and Saturday and can confirm it’s truly awful. As well as the above I can also add
1) you can now pay at the bottom turnstile only and the guys on the other entrance insisted we walk round the outside of the course In the pouring rain
2) they advertised saving £10 if you booked in advance for the next two meetings and went I rang up they wanted a £2.50 booking feeAbsolutely laughable that we were on the stand with no large screen (the horses aren’t visible for large parts) yet no public announcement made.
On the quieter days they shut the bars leaving the odd one rammed
In the end I was forced to complain by email but had no response !!
I’ve been going to the classic chase meeting for a few yrs and the numbers are dwindling
Great -just got back from southwell hsving not recorded ATR
Last time i buy the racing post (who indicated it was RUK only).
Brilliant day at southwell btw, the biggest ever turn out i’ve seen there, descent weather and a good card by their stsndards. Well done all round
Armchair jockey,
no not ascot. i went to a very rainy nottingham last wednesday to watch some (relative) egg amd spoon racing.
Haven’t got the figures to prove it, but i reckon there were more punters at nottingham; move it to the midlands and give these races a real chance to shine …
plays poker for a living
Re P2P, overrrounds are crackers every time i’ve visited (once and once only !!)
There is one problem with being a slave to the value theory, and that is a "horse on the drift"
You belive a horse is value at say 2/1. It opens at 7/4 and then drifts out to say 11/4. Is there "value" at 11/4, probably yes. It continues to drift to 7/2. Is there "value" at 7/2, probably no.
having said that you do get stand out prices from time to time, that just can’t be ignored.
Not suprising really, after i went jumps racing i thought the experience was very disappointing on 3 counts:
1) parking ~ you used to be able to park opposite the entrance on a patch of land (parkland) .. now they send you bloody miles away past the four furlong marker
2) Cost ~ took up an offer of 2for 1 and went in members. Good seating area but at £28 a pop, not good vaule for money "in the north"
3) New stand ~ big but very soul less. The re development has lost the "rustic charm" of the old place but hasn’t built anything else in its place.
thanks guys .. any reason why the oaks maybe a better option than the derby ?
