British racing needs a few star names this season and I’m hoping Kalif Du Berlais can be one of them. He’s the class act in the race and should take all the beating, but he’s not a bet.
I’m a big fan of JPR One and while he might need to improve to win this, he has conditions to suit. He’d be my bet.
It’s a shame about the turnout, but the duel between Potter’s Charm and Strong Leader is an intriguing one.
Fascinated to see how Potter’s Charm gets on over 3 miles. I think from a betting standpoint you’d have to opt for the one proven at the trip with the champion jockey on board, but I wouldn’t be going mad (not that I ever do anyway).
Like you, Nathan, I’d love to see Strong Leader go chasing.
I’m looking at the two Mickey Bowen runners; Courtland and Olivers Travels.
The former has been round the block a few times now, but is off his last winning mark with a claimer taking five while the latter has been plenty consistent enough all summer and is clearly in rude health having gone close in the Edinburgh Gin chase just 7 days ago.
If I was looking towards the top of the market I might be tempted by Henry’s Friend who was a touch underwhelming last season, for all he did take the Manderin Chase and ran with credit in the old Hennessy. A rating of 143 shouldn’t be beyond him.
What a headache of a race. Six old favourites. I’m almost tempted to just watch it.
If I had a gun to my head I’d probably just opt for The Real Whacker if only because of his price.
But I honestly can’t separate them.
Not the most enterprising list of entries from me, but here goes…
Alnilam
Ambiente Friendly
Ammes
Derryhassen Paddy
Kalif Du Berlais
Mydaddypaddy
Myretown
Rocky’s Diamond
The New Lion
WindbeneathmywingsThank you for organising once again!
EDIT:
Following the news that Caldwell Potter is out for the season; Ambiente Friendly has been subbed in (assuming they are still looking at a hurdling campaign!)Well in, winners.
Maybe the Grand National experience awakened his winning spirit

No Colonel Harry so it’s an unoriginal vote for Imperial Saint. Master Chewey is incredibly likable and fills out the forecast.
The first double I ever landed was in 2008 with Knowhere in this and Fundamentalist in the veterans chase earlier in the card and I always enjoy a go with the same double each year. This year I’ll be doubling up with Ashtown Lad.
Love this time of year.
Long Shot is unoriginal, but he’s very consistent and the stable is flying.
I’ll also have a look at Tiny Tetley who was in rare form in the spring.
It’s a toss up between Manofthepeople and Hyland. The latter may still have improvement in him, and the former is handicapped to go close.
After a frustrating day yesterday, I’m not feeling inclined to choose one over the other!
Another fun puzzle.
I’m leaning towards Scorsese and Zurich, but I could be convinced to back half a dozen of them.
Picked the wrong one

That was a pretty tidy performance by the winner barring that mistake at the second last. I’d be interested to see where they place him next.
I’m another vote for Sign Again and Navajo Indy is an interesting one. Proper puzzle.
While I like Alnilam, he’s a touch worse off with Country Mile from their Uttoxeter run and with course experience to his name I’ll have a go on him.
A big field handicap chase over a staying trip? This is more like it!
The Newest One is only one pound higher than when winning this last year and Beaufort Scale may appreciate the step up in trip. They’ll be my two.
The handicapper isn’t giving JPR One an inch after his Haldon Gold Cup win, but I just think he’s so likeable. I’ll probably end up backing Nells Son again

EDIT POST-FINAL DECS:
Or neither as the case may be. Looking at who’s left Matata may just outclass the lot of them. Not a race I’m gagging to have a bet in, but if I’m to have a go it’ll be Matata.
Colonel Harry was dining at the top table as a novice and was well fancied for the old Hennessy last season. This looks more his level and a mark of 144 is fair. Plenty of old friends in this and I could talk myself into most of them, but I’ll keep myself disciplined.
I expected bigger and better things from Salvador Ziggy and Sandor Clegane last season, but not to be. I will have a go on the pair of them and possibly Light M Strike, who might be a step below some of these, but he’s worth a look.
