Some very difficult races today and shortlists not as short as I’d like.

2pm Ascot – Passion Fruit, Gold Hush, Ventura, Perfect Star
2.25 Hay – Daryal, Mighty Moon
16.20 Ascot – Ramonti, Excellent Art, Darjina
16.55 Ascot – Diamond Diva, Italian Girl, Miss Lucifer
17.20 Hay – All the Aces, Blue Citadel, Green Wadi
17.30 Ascoy – Kasthari, Castle Howard, Whispering Death.

I also like a number of other runners in the TV races (more later)

Not looking forward to this weekend, well Ascot anyway. I never have any luck from my selections at the course.

Interesting to see a couple of decent fields at Market Rasen but given how early in the season (depedning on when you deem the season starts) it is so of the form might be a bit off

    We can only but try

    Carlisle,

Unfortunately I don’t know how to past e the info directly into the SS, I just pasted to a blank sheet and then cut and paste the required data. The form is a bit trickier as you need to add the figures up for the last 3 races so I just do this manually.

Any idea on the races to go for this weekend?

    Hensman,

Thanks for the tip, not sure if this is in the same order as the racecard though

I use the new web query to import just the race card using excel 2003.

Once the page has loaded I just tick the selection that I want to import. For some reason the RPR date doesn’t import but the TS data does.

Once imported to a blank SS I then cut and paste the relevant data over. So whilst being far from ideal (ie It doesn’t fit straight onto my SS) it does save me a lot of time typing out names etc.

For the data that is missing I simply reduce the size of the excel window and website window and then copy the information across as I see. I reckon I can complete a typical 12 runner race in less than 10 minutes. As I do about six or so race on a weekend then it takes me about 45 mins on a Friday. This leaves me Saturday morning to concentrate on the shortlist

Carlisle with regards to the ss I use the one that you sent me a while back

Sorry Carlisle I must have missed your point from the above. I did use excel and I did use ‘new web query’ to import my data. I found it very useful indeed. I then input the class figures

I found it difficult to extract the rpr data and odds as that must use differnet coding on the website. Unless Hensman can offer anymore advice

When the taces were named earlier in the week I waited for the decs and entered the details. I had to wait until Friday for the SP’s

I use VDW each and every weekend and whilst I dont use the results blind I do create my shortlist from which I study the form.

From the 4.40 I created a list of 4, Ivy Creek Anna Pavlova, Confidnetial Lady and Caldra. I then applied other factors to consider the winner. In all of the six races that I slected to bet on this weekend the winner was in all of my shortlists (3/4runners). I had 3 winners and 1 place from my six selections

I dont bet to make a lot of money indeed my stakes are pretty low (£5 – £10 per race) and I dont really bet to make a great profit I do it because I like racing and have a bit of a flutter makes it even more exciting.

VDW has helped me enormously and I’d recommend it to anyone taking up the sport. I dont have much time to select races (work/life commitments) but a lot of thanks goes to some of the guys on this forum for helping me

Did you email me the data as I never got anything, the only data I had was on one of your posts above and this was the same as my data entries (form TS Rpr starting price)

All I did was work out the class (I use win prize money in 00’s divded by total wins)

Could I ask how you calculate you class rating as mine is slightly different. I understand that your speed ratings are your own as well

Also had Mr Keppel and Beaver Patrol E/W, With my £5 maximum bet its worked out ok.

When my bank is big enough hopefully I can think about a £50 bet

Given that my betting bank is somewhat small I ended up making a £122 profit so pleased with that, If only i had gone from Freman then I would be even happier.

Only dodgy races of the day and where my shortlist let me down was the 3.45 at Newbury. Other than that the winner can be found in each of my shortlists
