It should go back to its old 9am start but i think C4 are more concerned about their T4 viewers who probably dont think that horse racing is "COOL"

8am’s too early for me, thank god for Channel 4+1… lol….actually, Channel 4+1+1 would be even more suitable for me.

Same here regarding the sense of humo(u)r bit (they have a laugh about me using the letter ‘u’ in that word) and some of them constantly remind me of Fawlty Towers, Monty Python and Benny Hill and think its always foggy in London. lol

Also agree on their sit-coms although their ‘cartoons’ like The Simpsons, The Family Guy are pretty clever and funny.

I used to think it was a glorified version of rounders, but a decade ago, as a student, I was flicking through the channels to see what was on, not much at 2am except for baseball and eventually fell in love with the game. I used to be a hugh football fan, not American Football, our football, soccer as they call it, but gone off it in recent years as most of the players are pampered up to the hilt and are more concerned with appearences in HELLO magazine than in an England shirt….anyway, back to the point….lol….these players play 162 games a season, starting from April-October.

I follow the New York Yankees who are the equivelent of Man Utd (not that I’m proud of that, lol) more to do with their history and their approach (buy all the good players in sight, lol)

The regularly get 55,000 per game but are moving to a new stadium next year so that figure will rise. Because I bet on their games, not only is the forum fun to be in but useful too. They have a gameday thread for every game where its like a in-play discussion and avearges around 2000 posts in 3-4 hours (no, its not only one or two posters who have a lot to say, lol) well, the Yankees do, some of the other teams struggle to get into double figures…

Yes, planning to go next year and my friend who I have been chatting to on the forum for the past 5 years is going to put me up (oh, oh, careful….knew him via the internet, he could be a nutter lol)…

    Thanks, she was a favourite of mine too…..bet you ain’t UM……reverse psychology I bet (4/6) ….no, its not a chat-up line!! lol

Hi UM….more to do with Americans than the country itself (never visited) but I have been a member of a baseball forum for around 5 years now and as you can imagine, the vast majority of the posters are Americans (or say they are, lol)

Anyway, they are friendly, welcoming to new posters and are not patronising to people from other countries. They get a lot more ‘troll’s though….lol

Totesport have live racing commentary. All I know is that they charge 10p per min from a UK landline and you can call from an Irish mobile.

Not sure of the rate but they have a freephone number.

Not sure if they are any quicker than ATR but you can try

Im newish and to be honest i have always been happy at how i have been treated but i do believe there is a litlle bit of a snobbish element on this and all forums.

When i say that i refer to the 5 stars next to most of your names, but the 1 next to mine etc etc. I often feel people only look for the comments of those they know.

I guess its understandable but it is quite annoying at times.

    No offence intended.

Excuse me, but do I know you?????…….just kidding…lol

British weather in the late Summer down here. Not happy.

I’m not sure if I read any slanderous comments in that "quickening" thread. I know I said the comment was outrageous, but certainly if anyone believes forum etiquette is dropping because of that, then I probably don’t know how you would understand right from wrong?

This may not be the thread in which I should participate in. For you see, the Australian racing forum I am a member of is well … the title reads: "if you are easily offended, this might not be the best forum for you." I say Horse A can’t win … think of the darkest, most despicable response piled with horrible expletives … that is the reply.

Do understand why I am strongly disagreeing with this (for use of a better, less harsh word) "whinging" about forum etiquette.

We’ve got the British whether here…

Nothing what you said on the other thread mate, not implying you. Maybe if you read it through, you might think its out of order too, even though we should take things with a pinch of salt….

Welcome to a forum Mr. Hughes.

The Princeton online dictionary describes a forum as:

a public meeting or assembly for open discussion

Now, if everyone was involved in an open discussion, there would be instances of opinions by some posters which others disagree, and thus must express their views in reply

And if everyone just agreed to what everyone else said, discussion would be dull and boring.

And it’s not just relevant to this forum – example, I read a racebook comment in which a horse with awful formlines and no scope for improvement, reads something like: “Not bad last start. Place chance at odds.” It should just read: “My wife could run faster than this hack. Rule a line.”

Cop it on the chin, and move on. That’s the way we do it down here.

    Hi MD, hows it going?

Its not the disagreements as such, its more the being slagged off silly by someone who doesn’t agree….

I think its more a case of Paul Nicholls being shrewd enough to know the nature of horse racing. All the unbeatables can get beaten and I think in that type of profession it becomes second nature to be a little cautious.

If I were PN I wouldn’t be coming out telling the public I had a near cert and run the risk of a lynching when it gets stuffed thirty lengths.

PN has a ‘column’ on teletext C4 which appears on Thurs/Fri each week and has done so for a number of years.

Previously, he would talk briefly about each of his runners and would give his best bet or the horse with the best chance of winning. Over the past couple of months, the ‘Have Your Say’ section open to the public, have been serverly critisizing him ‘most of his other runners won but not his best bet of the day’ or ‘he cost me a Lucky 15, I should have put his other horse in instead’ etc……..and over the last few weeks, I’ve noticed that he has omitted using the ‘best bet’ term…..probably doesn’t want the aggro…

Not a website, but ‘Have Your Say’ on teletext racing on Channel 4 is always good for a laugh…lol

I do like reading teletext but have your say is largely terrible, I think some of the quotes on their are just put on by teletext to provoke people to respond, such as:

"Tony McCoy is the worst jockey on the planet, he has never won a grand national, ruby is king, who agrees?"

"Ruby Walsh is the worst jockey on the planet, Tony McCoy is king, who agrees"

"Exotic Dancer will win the gold cup, kauto star is rubbish, lump on now"

Some of the quotes I saw about mccoy on there after his injury were properly savage, I couldnt help but think what if he’s reading that on a hospital TV.

I do like http://www.irishracing.com as anytime my computer packs in I can still get on this one in work, the Racing Post etc are blocked. Its basically my plan B website, but its reliable.

A while back, someone posted a tip, a few people backed it without even knowing the guy and texted in to complain afterwards, so they lost twice…lol

There was also this ongoing debate as to whether you would want the leader of a race to fall if your horse was in second place, approaching the last….in went on for a while…lol

Their ‘Clued Up’ section is quite interesting, just to know who their ‘Lay of The Day’ is and reasons why and Deja Vu i.e horses or trainer trends in certain races…

I would expand, but I’ve got Charlize Theron in here with me tonight, and she’s begging for it.

Hows she looking GH? I remember in that film monster she looked like quite a monster.

Betting is an emotive topic, and people will at times feel inclined to talk about it, if they choose to lie about it then thats up them, they will get nothing from it in the long term.

The only thing I find boring on here is people bitching at each other with no constructive reason and its just make cringeworthy reading IMHO.

    Spot on mate…

What is "interesting" about how much someone else wins or loses – especially when the amounts being bandied about cannot be corr

Thanks for your support Oneman- punting is part of racing so i thought people would be interested.

Why would you need support? Think this is a free country the last time I checked. Say what you feel mate….

Surely betting is in some ways linked to horses? We all obtain different things from horse racing. Some of us get a bit pissed when we get an unlucky loser and feel better letting off a bit of steam. Perhaps we can have a thread for ‘bad beats’??lol……people can choose to read the posts or ignore them, no biggy…..

I know exactly how you felt yesterday on that Striking Article ride Ghost, regardless of his short price or him being over-rated or not…

You’re right. They might have won a Champion Hurdle (or two) but TRUE champions comes once in a blue moon. Sizing Europe has the POTENTIAL to becoming a true champion which alone is exciting.

It is fashionable to some to throw plaudits at a CH winner, QMCC winner or a GC winner, but who did they beat? In what style did they win? Did they beat a poor bunch? Brave Inca, Hardy Eustace, Rooster Booster, all ‘gutsy’ and great ‘battlers’ but TRUE champions they ain’t. Of course its also down to one’s definition and interpretation….some people are too easy to please :D (threw in a smiley pic there just to illustrate that this is a not to be taken too seriously post)
