To those who think this went unacknowledged, the trainer did tweet on the same day starting ‘It is with a heavy heart..’and ending ‘RIP Henry’.
A horrible injury, poor lad. I hope he didn’t have to suffer too long.
RubyLight, I do think you are being unfair to the commentator, John Hunt today wasn’t it?
It was pretty obvious that it would be a fatal injury but nobody wants to hear ‘that’s a dead one’ in the middle of the race, and if he said nothing he may be thought to be uncaring by some on here. So I don’t really see what he could possibly do other than send ‘good wishes’. I like him – he often tweets good news if a horse gets up after a nasty fall in a race he’s called.
I thought it was Noel Fehily on Bury Parade with Daryl Jacob on Grandioso?
Unfortunately Racing UK reported that he fractured a fetlock and was put down. A real shame, RIP lad.
A huge number listed, which is very sad, however should be noted that over half of them have not run for several months, if not years.
M O Cullinane has three listed, all owned and trained by himself, all been off for over 9 months.
RIP to all.
RIP to all. Sad to see old Aitmatov among them.
Interesting to note that only three of them had run in the last month or so.
Three of them are listed as being trained by the same man – Eoin Griffin has been unlucky. RIP to all.
What a super horse. I hope he has the happy and healthy retirement he deserves.
A rather dismissive reply Paul, verging on rude I would say.
Not a great incentive to other, less regular, contributors on here to become more involved when a subject someone has found of interest is brushed aside with a ‘been there done that’ response.
Hmm, not a clue what horses in training tend to fetch but I’ll go for 106,000 Guineas.
I was at Huntingdon on Sunday and was, as with any fatality, upset and saddened by the death of poor Barry the Barber.
However, he did not appear to me to be unfit on viewing the horses in the paddock, in fact I wrote on my racecard that he looked well and happy.
There is some emotive language being used in this thread. The horse was not being ‘flogged to death’ Moehat. The horse started to drop out the back and the jockey asked him for more effort to keep up, as would any jockey of any horse. There was no response from the horse and you then see the jockey look down a couple of times and he immediately pulled him up quickly. He had dismounted when the horse collapsed, he wasn’t riding a finish with whip flailing, tailed off by half the course.
Perhaps the reason the horse has been uncompetitive in the past was due to an underlying heart condition?
Commiserations to anybody who cared for this horse, and the (far too many) that have also lost their lives recently in some horrific falls.

Anything else –Got to admit to being biased, RedG (partner works for Red Bull F1) but I don’t think Vettel did lose much after winning the title. The first corner puncture and gearbox problem in Brazil meant he didn’t the finish the season on a high but he definitely still had the edge (how many pole positions??). Still after that fastest lap every race too.
Hope Hamilton picks up a bit next season though and gives us a run for our money.
Hope you get to MK to see the cars. Not sure the NASCAR will be doing much for me, though should be a crowd pleaser with DC driving.

I think you’re on to something – Monaco, Monza, Milton Keynes….
*sighs* Quoting from a previous post has defeated me again. Middle paragraph of my post above belonged to CrustyPatch.
I hate computers.
Martin Kelly seems OK, although it’s not going to be hard to appear eloquent and knowledgable when you compare him to most of the others on that channel.
Speaking of me being sad, I love Gina Bryce’s voice, although I do wish she would hand over to the commentator by name and, in Flat races, not after the runners have left the stalls and already gone half a furlong.
She talks too slowly don’t you think? Very pretty though.
Love your Catterick story CrustyPatch. Although there are a few callers I am not that keen on, I can only imagine walking out if arriving and being greeted with the name ‘Matt Chapman’ in the racecard!
