    Johnjdonoghue,

I respect your opinion (I really do); I hunt most weeks, so I do at least have experience of what it takes to ride, albeit not in a race.

So I have been somewhat churlish in putting forward my views, I nevertheless stick by them. First and foremost I am not disparaging Kinane’s notable career in the saddle. I respect his talent and his achievements. However, I will continue to argue that he has lost a degree of his adeptness; and, in a game where the margins between defeat and victory are so fine I certainly wouldn’t consider him a top flight jockey when compared to Dettori, Bailey or Valenzeula.

Furthermore, let me tell you that I am in horse racing purely for the love of the sport.

What are you talking about, [removed by admin] ???

When did I say that the ‘Euro starts’ that a lot of our (more specifically O’Brien’s) horses got was the fault of the jockeys. That’s right, I didn’t.

I am commenting on three atrocious rides that Kinane has given in the biggest races in the world in the last three years.

You can name other jockeys to have given bad rides…but those names (unless it’s Earlie Fires) don’t repeat themselves three years in a row, do they?<br>

If I had a million on the outcome, there is only one man I’d want on my side…P-Val.

Valenzuela is a genius (when not on the white stuff) and is guaranteed to get the best out of his horse.

I’m not talking about his success in the last 20 years…the issue is his performance in the top races in the last 3, (not the O’Brien steering jobs he’s had in 5 runner Euro G1s) but the really big races.

Ultimately, his age is catching up with him.

That’s right. Mick Kinane’s record at the biggest race meeting in the world in the last few years speaks for itself doesn’t it?

    Big race jockey? p**s

Sorry, when I was talking about "last season’s Irish Champion", I meant the 2001 race, where Kinane somehow contrived to get Galileo beaten.

Past glories count for nothing when a jockey is palpably over the top, as Kinane has been for the last 3 seasons. Carl Llewellyn has won two Grand Nationals. So, he’s s**t
    now.

I hate it when people laud over Kinane as "the big race jockey"

Yet he’s lost 3 Breeders’ Cup races in the last 3 years. Alright Frankie had a ‘mare on Swain in the BCC, but his G1 record since then has been exepmlary. Look at last season’s Champion @ Leopardstown. He completely outrode Kinane.

Well Johnny V has just made his case to be #1 by giving Harlan’s Holiday what was perhaps the perfect ride to win the Donn @ Gulfstream.
