Alastair’s articles were so engaging and beautifully-crafted with wonderful prose and humour. His reflective pieces at the end of Channel 4’s Cheltenham highlights were also a wonderful mix of fact, fiction and emotion. I remember after Istabraq’s first CH…… ‘Aidan phones the parish priest and tells him to get the builders in’ ! He will be sadly missed. RIP

I spent Friday morning reviewing Istabraq’s races on You Tube. I was privileged to have been at Chelters for all 5 of his Festival runs. I’m glad I did, as ITV devoted all of 60 seconds to him on both the Opening Show and the main afternoon races yesterday ….!

I’ll never forget the sight of C Swan’s white cap steadily carving through the field from the top of the hill and then leaving them all for dead from two out. He was deadly. Rest in Peace old friend.

Look, it’s done & dusted. Fair play to Skelton I say. He broke no rules. Messers Pipe & Martin among others were masters of the smoke & mirrors in handicaps back in the day.

Anyway, I had a look back at the race this evening and marvelled at how R. Blackmore on Ballyadam came from the rear to cut through the pack like an arrow. What a jockey she is !
