Yeah I could not agree with you more there neil.

Whats happend to all our great staying races on the flat in the past? over the years the seem to have dwindled and dwindle and seemingly replaced by "MUCH SHORTER" shorter fast sprint races.Dont get me wrong either I love the sprint races aswell. But its the great staying races on the flat that I prefer.

I think all this emphasis on speed breeding will lead to the demise in the quality of a horses stamina in the thoroughbred as we know it today.

But I suppose its all about making quick money now isnt it?

Can any one think of any top staying mares of recent times aswell? Its these who we should be breeding from more "of"

Just to pick up on the point that "No Idea" made earlier on in the thread, that running a horse over the wrong distance is corruption.

Let me just say, when my horse runs,he always runs to the best of his ability right up to the line.Whos to say that with age he wont get that longer trip? One day he may stay 2m plus?

I will just call him horse "xyz" for obvious reasons. So when people look at his form they can clearly see that he has never won beyond 1m4f. So its not my fault that some has decided he should be favourite in a 2m race. That isnt my problem.

He will get further over time, but when that will be even I have no idea. The trainer feels exactly the same as me on this one and I trust the trainer 100% no questions.

I can see why people may class it as corruption but I can assure you 100% it is not corruption. The form is there for every one to read!

I hope this makes some sort of sense?

Well thankyou so much for that Love Devine, just reading through some of the names you mentioned, brought back a whole raft of memories.

Yeah good old Seargent Cecil what an outstanding stayer, liked how he could show a devastating turn of foot after two miles and make the end look like a five furlong sprint.

It is the likes of the horses you have just mentioned that brings in the crowds, and of course pumps more money into racing which is good for the sport in generall.

Just hope we dont end up like America and get rid of all them Staying races.Would be bad for racing.Well thats my own personal view of course.

Racing as in any sport is open to corruption.I sincerely believe that the only ones that are into the corruption side of things either have a drug problem or are to dam stupid to make an honest living from raceing.

I do believe though that honesty is penalised to much, say for if a horse is succesfull his rating goes up and chances of winning diminish. So it is in the intrest of every trainer and owner to outwit the handicapper so to speak. So is a game of tug of war so to speak.

After all as an owner I want my horses to win as often as possible, other wise no pay day. However say if my horse wins six races on the trot.He would go up the handicap so much his racing career would be over.

There for I would place my horse in a race where the distance is wrong so has no chance of winning, even though I am not doing any thing wrong. He still runs to his best ability.

People often confuse this practise with corruption, the form gurus know different.

You also have to take into consideration that horses are living breathing thinking animals they art not machines, they just like us have off days where they simply dont perform on the day.

Yeah have to say I agree with you there Grasshopper, having seen him just win under A P Mcoy I now think thats a far better chance then the RSA which I previously thought would be better.Well actually I do have slightly mixed feelings.Hes alledgedly gonna be having a spin over hurdles around christmas time so well ahve to wait and see what questions that throws up.

Now "Gone to Lunches" race yesterday Nov 27th GPG NOVICES CHASE:

I have watched the race several times and I am fairly convinced you are right there. The placed horse TARTAK I thought could of been ridden better and didnt do to badly off 138 so reckon he might be worthy of a bet next time out maybe at a similar level though.

Dont know if any one saw the race or has any views on it.

Was Gutted that The Tother One fell surely he would of gave "Gone To Lunch" Some thing to do under Sam Thomas! Would of been a great finish had he not of fell "shame"

Just to reply to Kendal Cavalier.

I think you may well be on the money there when you say Gone To Lunch will probably go for the RSA I cant see him running in the NH Chase to be honest. I think he would find the RSA a more straightforward asignment.

Can I just mention the Grand National "Black Apalache" just remeber where you heard it first folkes.I reckon if the ground is soft on the day and he produces a good clear round there is nothing in training that could get near him that I can see at present.

Last time he fell at the second. But sinse then his jumping around the Antree fences is superb.
