Some interesting replies already that we are taking note of (please keep them coming). Just to be clear, unlimited bets at any price were never a target, but I can assure you that this morning I tried to get a HUGE £2 on a 16/1 chance and got knocked back to 91p by Bet365 – does anyone really think that is acceptable? I am hardly arbing with those stakes (which is often their answer to such restrictions), we would simply like all punters to be able to get a bet on – even if its a tenner. I accept the trade off may be higher percentages for the bookmakers, but does it really matter what the overround is if people cannot get a bet on? They offer a price – I take it (or not if I think it is poor value), it’s as simple as that – why should punters be punished for taking the best prices available? In addition, we are told its only 3% of accounts closed or restricted, but with no evidence to back that up – and from the e-mails and tweets we get at the HBF it seems a major case of concern. Suffice to say 13 million allegedly bet on the Grand National each year – so even 3% equates to 390,000 restricted accounts -food for thought at least?
