We have no idea what weights the horses were carrying in the workouts do we? So first impressions
might
not be all that they seem………
Danehill Destiny.
William Haggas filly very impressive winner at Newmarket on 17th April.Looks interesting for the Queen Mary,Albany or Norfolk as they decide.
Fantastic water jump at Auteuil. A terrific spectacle to watch it jumped right in front of the stands.
It is to be hoped that British courses keep their water jumps.
jamessmith894,
Where do you get the idea that Exotic Dancer needs a right handed track?
The St Leger meeting is one of my favourites.
In the old stand there was plenty of unreserved elevated seating for Day Members.
I do hope this is still the case with the new facility?
Perhaps any forum member attending Donny this Friday will post here and advise ?
My vote goes to ‘Other’ – John Hunt, though I actually think there is very little between Hunt and Hoiles ,both accurate, informative and with excellent highly ‘listenable’ voices. Simon Holt I would rate as not far behind them but the 3H’s are very much the Premier League of commentators IMHO.
I recall John Hunt’s commentary on the Becher Chase at Aintree the year Clan Royal won the race. The sun was very low and made viewing from the commentary position very difficult.Hunt actually mentioned Clan Royal as a possible faller on a couple of occasions. Those lapses in accuracy were memorable enough because they were so rare but what really sticks in my mind is that before the next race John Hunt announced that he had reviewed the tape of the Becher Chase and wished to apologise for his mistakes. I think that showed a lot of class.
I don’t recall GG or Aussie Jim ever apologising for their sadly increasingly common errors.
Richard Hoiles is exceptional in that as well as being one of the top two or three commentators in the country he is also one of the best presenters and ‘expert summarisers’.In addition to this ,when he is anchoring RUK from the studio his incisive comments viz exchange movements and the advisability or otherwise of taking a Board price are invariably spot on.
I did actually go to school with ‘Dickie’ Hoiles – but I haven’t spoken to the bloke for 23 years so I trust I will not be accused of bias lol.
He’s already a step ahead of Finsceal Beo, she was beaten in a nursery! Only early closing juvenile events for which the entries are available so far are the Gimcrack, Lowther, Champagne (entered) Mill Reef, Royal Lodge, Fillies’ Mile. Cheveley Park and Middle Park.
Lol DJ, see, I told you I couldn’t think of the last horse to win a Nursery before winning a Classic lol. And poor Finsceal Beo never even entered my head – I can’t believe I forgot about her lol.
Have to agree with you though, Gothenburg was extremely impressive and on the balance of the form going into the race, it looked a strong race.

Bollin Eric won the 1mile Nursery H’cap at the Doncaster St Leger meeting in 2001 and returned to the course to win the final Classic the following year.
