I’m really hoping Bode is back for the Belmont Stakes. This horse has been incredible… he was pushed into three 24 or sub quarters in the race.

This has been a real rivalry such as Affirmed/Aldar. To see Bode not compete would be crushing. I mean he only lost the last two races by a couple of jumps. A little more racing luck and who knows?

I don’t think a race with Union Rags and Dullahan will capture the imagination of the general public, though die hard racing fans will enjoy it, for sure.

We need Bode, and another thrilling stretch finish….

    Well,

Let’s face it…the GN has been a bit unlucky the last couple of years. But, lets not throw out the baby with the bathwater. The GN is one of the greatest spectacles in the world.

It is also very rare for horses to be hurt in jump racing…I realize everyone has their own idea of what that is…

However, you can go to the jumps several times a year and never see a horse put down.

Lets get real here and back this GN like there is no tomorrow. Now is the time to support the great sport… Not get timid and give in to people who profess to love horses, but want to wipe the sport out. This could only have a very tragic outcome for the horses…

and mankind….as far as I’m concerned.

    Hello,

I’m an American who is an avid jumps fan. I love the Grand National. I sure hope there are no changes made to the race. I think jump racing is safe (as much as any such sport can reasonably be).

I have almost been "run out of town" so to speak, on some of the U.S. message boards. There are alot of hostile feelings about the running of the GN…what with two horses being killed.

I said that it was basically a fluke. I have read articles in British horseracing newspapers that agree with my view. However, I don’t think the messege is getting through some very thick skulls.

I think Paul Nichols said it best when he said "People need to grow up, this is a sport!"

Andy Beyer says he sits down with a stack of charts, poster board, and a marking pen (book written before computer age). Average up times for each class level at each distance.
Do this with a bottle of Whiskey. Drink the whiskey, mark the board, and make your figures!

    Well,

Harbinger ran a blinder, and I’m not sure Workforce could have beat him on his best form. Ryan Moore has been brilliant this year, but his pick of WF over Harbinger has really got me scratching my head.

However, there has to be some explanation about the WF performance. He lost about the same lengths to Cape Blanco that he did at York. He had tons of trouble in that race. You couldn’t say that race was true to his form.

On the other hand, it seems very much franked by the same result now in the King George.

My feeling is that he must have sustained an injury of some kind in this race. I hope I’m wrong. Surely there has to be more of an explanation that what we’ve got so far.

Some of his calls are brilliant- spot on. Other calls are way off the mark. However, I consider him to be one of the great commentators on the game.

    Very entertaining fellow!

Great on screen personality who really has a knack for keeping things interesting. Both Racing expert and TV entertainer- very rare combination.

Keep him on the air- by all means!

    McCririck,

If the ole topper is what McCririck wants to wear, it’s fine by me.

My wife, on the other hand, says the ole boy could use a shave and haircut.

I really think that the Dubai World Cup would have been hers for the asking. But connections decided not to show up. Now they go with another ho hum race.

I don’t think we’ll get to the bottom of this mare to see what she has in the tank.

Perhaps she is not quite what she was last year. Her last race was very slow. She may be in for a shocking upset this weekend- even with a pacemaker added for her (perhaps this pacemaker is in because of the Blind Luck race- the Oaks winner had no pace to run to and lost her first race last weekend.)

Anyway, she’s never needed a pacemaker before. So, along with other things, I think this race is a coming up a bit strange.
