What we need is a robust competitor to the Racing Post.
Only my opinion, of course.

Oh, I do miss the ‘Life’…..thank goodness we still have their excellent website.

May is upon us and spring in full flow and the selections today are.
John Gosden has a 36% strike rate at Lingfield over the last five seasons and a +10.22 profit and he has two runners on Friday in Euston Square in the 1.40 and Sehoy in the 5.35.
Out of luck today, Trendsman after an excellent start yesterday but a good topic worth pursuing.

Elcartero,
Perhaps ‘odds’ is not exactly the right word. But the reality is that if you have £1000 in the bank, it takes a much shorter losing run to wipe that out if your average stake is £200 than it would if your stake was £50.
So the chance, probablity or ‘odds’ on a wipeout are much shorter.
The point being made to the original poster (who seems to have gone missing anyway) is that increasing stakes isn’t a certain way of increasing profits unless it is matched by a larger initial bank.
Many thanks, AP….very eloquently put if I may say so. I’ve finally got the point!

Thanks for an interesting response to my query, Bully…I can identify with the point you make as no doubt will many other punters but I still don’t understand why ‘the odds’ of a losing run should increase as stakes are increased. Surely ‘the odds’ will remain the same resulting in either greater profits or greater losses or am I still missing something here.

Carvillshill…..
Forgive me if I’m being dense here but why should ‘the odds of such a losing run increase when you begin to stake out of your comfort zone….’Powered by Linux
Many thanks for all your hard work, Bully….it’s been great fun.
Congratulations, Treggy (Baron of Cheltenham)….you’re a worthy winner…hope you’ve made big money this week!Powered by Linux

Hello Carlisle…
I’m interested and delighted to note that you are trying to get a computer group together and although my current commitments would preclude my taking an active part at this stage I can offer to supply to the group the following software and documentation for analysis and evaluation:
Compunter
Combayes
RaceElect
All these programs were developed by Padraig Kirby of DFL and are IMHO the most comprehensive and effective programs of their type.
Should this be of any interest to you please let me know. Unfortunately, I shall be away for the coming week but will try to access the forum if I can find an Internet Cafe!
Finally, can I recommend a book which I feel would be of benefit to the group’s library:
‘The Punter’s Revenge (Computers in the world of Gambling)’ by Tony Drapkin and Richard Forsyth ISBN 0-412-27770-0.
Regards,

The most succesful one I used at the time was called ‘Form Master’ which was out briefly in the late 1980’s.
It was released by a company in Harrogate who’s name escapes me.
It was very succesful and quite obviously based around VDW’s writings (which was the trigger for me to study VDW in more detail.)
It was taken off the market after about 3 months, it was rumoured at the time that one of the big 3 bookmakers bought the rights and took it off the market.
Brimardon is based in Harrogate…..any connection do you suppose?

There were three class 3 races at Great Leighs today and most of the top trainers were represented on a surface which is acknowledged to be good and fair. OK, so the facilities may not be great at this stage but IMHO this is fairly good class midweek racing by current standards.
If it’s a choice between excellent facilities and class 5 and 6 fare and basic amenities and class 3 and 4, I would choose the latter every time.

Strongly recommend Fastmail. I’ve been with them for years with no problems

I find the ‘Guardian’ profitable closely followed by the ‘Daily Mail’ but as always they are more effective in some races than others (ie Handicaps of fewer than 10 runners at good class courses).
