A great read this. Just a bit of info on the Dipper Novices’ Chase, during the late Stan Clarke’s time owning Newcastle with his Northern Racing company, it coincided with the authorities giving permission for courses to sell races to other courses.

Northern Racing moved the Dipper Chase to Cheltenham in this way. And also what was the Beeswing Stakes (Group 3) on the flat run on King George Day in July, but also up until the mid 1990s (believe 1995 was the last time) it was run on the Monday afternoon before Glorious Goodwood started the following day. The Beeswing Stakes at Newcastle became the Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Personally very much disliked both of these moves, I like races to be spread around, and it’s sad the North lost a good jump race. Races you associate with courses, I think the Dipper gets a little bit lost in the shuffle on New Years Day now.

I’m sure i’ll enjoy the rest of these then and now posts this year as I have these first few.

I bought it last week and this week, it’s fine, hope it sticks around because the Racing Post is a total rip off at £2.90. The standard of that paper and the people writing for it gets worse every year.

Nice to have an option on a saturday that’s a quid cheaper. Especially as for 2.90 you didn’t get a full entries service in the post because of ‘pressures on space’. If you’re charging three quid a day your readers should get the full whack.

If you’re sitting watching the racing on a saturday afternoon and want the cards in front of you, The Racing paper will do the job.

It’s a good watch, remarkable stats about how much of a northern hemisphere benefit it was this year, 11 northern hemisphere runners filling 8 of the first 10 places, including obviously the first three.

Seems a bit mad to me the Australians can’t breed their own horses for these staying and middle distance races, the prize money for them is excellent, proper incentives to do so.

Good, ban them. I think they’re far too full on, full of lies and unrealistic, they must have an effect on younger eyes and minds. I’d say the vast majority posting on here have a lot of experience of bookies and betting and see them for the bookies propaganda they are. Teenagers don’t have that benefit.

And they’re everywhere all the time, all over sky sports, terrestrial when there’s a sporting event like the euros on, with all their jackanory amazing deals to be with us. Far too much of them.

I like horseracing and betting, but really believe all these ads esp pushing bet with your smart phone, is a bookies angle to get a new generation of mug addict punters.

Feels a long way off with this grim, damp weather today but I like this choice of thread topic!

I’m looking forward, like every year to see what first season sires progeny are runners, interest in Frankel’s offspring will be massive obviously, but I loved Famous Name as a racehorse too, would love to see him have a couple of good horses.

Hopefully no Gleneagles like can’t run him on that ground dramas, got fed up to the back teeth with that carry on last year, which was a shame as he was excellent in his first three starts.

The Johnston and Fahey yards going close or winning the trainers championship, either would be great.

I’d like them to have a completely fresh start, new faces all round.

And give some kids who didn’t grow up with a silver spoon a chance, one thing that’s a huge turn off for me, and has been for years in whatever channel or coverage it’s been, is these self entitled pillocks with no real talent of whom the maxim ‘it’s not what you know but who you know’ could have been written for.

Five minutes before the Coventry Stakes and they were talking fashion something or other, then they went to an advert, then it felt like the runners were just about loaded in the stalls. The race deserved more of a preview. Not impressed with the coverage today.

Ward has said he wont run in the guineas and will go for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
    Wise decision? I think so.

I’d agree. Knowing the ownership too wouldn’t be surprised if they’re keen to miss Newmarket with him as they’ve already got the hot favourite.

I think the Chelmsford meeting would have worked better as a twilight/evening meeting under lights after Doncaster and Kempton had finished, maybe they’ll do something like that in the future.
