I personally think these ‘warnings’ (i.e disclaimers) are a good thing.
Contrary to Boomer Belief (oooh someone should trademark that!) not all Millenials and Gen Z’s are liberal and/or left-wing.
There are many lurking, or blatant, right-wing and anti-PC young people. Most of these have been somewhat “radicalised” by the like of Ben Shapiro, Jordan Peterson &co.
I believe that by putting these disclaimers, the really young youngsters know EXACTLY what they are watching, because their parents may not say. I really don’t want yet another generation of ‘fusty dusties’ (see what I did there?) who still think the height of all humour is ‘hah funny generic-overused stereotype/caricature’.
We can all enjoy the funny shows in our childhood/general past, but I feel we all must not look back in the Golden Age Mindset.
As said on this thread, there were always things you couldn’t get away with saying on TV, and in general, its just those things have now changed.
I’ll give an example. When I was 15 I loved watching Frankie Boyle – I mean, I was obsessed. I knew all his jokes (+ a few of Jimmy Carr’s too). I thought his humour was so shocking and offensive and… wait for it… funny!
However, watching it back, I can still laugh at some of it, but other parts I realise how ‘past it’ I am. Things like that I just don’t find funny anymore. Perhaps, I see it from the other perspective now.
If I was watching an old programme, I would know what I was getting into, but a disclaimer makes it all the more easy to turn over, before I ‘get into’ anything.

Griff, I also sometimes do this. I like to pick a random horse occasionally and see its form etc. It is then interesting to see where the other horses ended up out of the same race. A lot of the time there are dead ends.
Additionally, sometimes I will look on a horses form and think to myself – ‘sorry, you might not make it much longer as a racehorse’. (I.e they have very very little prospects)
It’s almost as if there are too many racehorses being bred… like someone brought up earlier in the thread, so many are just made for Class Six races etc.Time flies like a banana, flies are like arrows...fruit?.. wait, no....
Jan, I agree with your comment on Mark Johnston, I wouldn’t like to be one of his horses in training!
Re ITV’s response. I really didn’t know what to expect but it didn’t feel like much to be honest. However, I deff feel like this wouldn’t have been brought up in any previous year/ by other channel providers in the past. So maybe that IS progress – starting public, terrestrial conversation on the topic.
Interesting that Ireland will be working with the Garda but can’t say I hold out much hope on it all. Like I said, they are all only sorry now they have been caught!

Personally, I think some reactions to the Panorama are ‘I’m only sorry I got caught’. As everyone knows, the issues raised in the documentary have been going on for ages.
However, it is great to know others feel so strongly on this subject as I do, and so many eloquent replies too
I suppose I just hope that the racing industry actually make a change and take things onboard. But I feel I have been waiting for that ever since I got into horseracing
Ultimately, its clear most of those in racing (i.e the owners/trainers/boards) will just ignore it, and lie their way out of things.
A lot of the time the industry feels like its just people trying to convince each other and themselves that everything is okay when it isn’t. (e.g oh look at these FEW retired racehorses in nice living conditions, look! behold! see we’re all lovely people – pat on the back for us!)
[side note – am sort of also guilty of this for loving the ‘Homeschooling’ segment on ITV racing. it makes any guilt about seeing a horse break down feel justified ]I suppose at least here we are all self-aware that things need to change in the sport. We can enjoy horse racing as long as we can critique it. Love should NOT be blind in racing!!

I agree with most points on this thread.
I just feel in half an hour only a few conclusions could be made. All of which don’t highlight the intricacies and delights of racing.
However, it does shed light on soemthing that needs to be discussed, so I guess… swings and roundabouts ?

I agree with BigG, Boughey seems like one to watch.
Henry de Bromhead is definitely one to support too :)

For what it’s worth, I think ITV Racing isn’t that bad. Although, I thought a lot more of it when I didn’t have a Racing TV subscription, since then I only watch the big events on ITV.
The Social Stable has a lot of potential but I think Oli and Chris need some more chemistry, they’re a bit awkward at times with one another. Its okay though.
I am a MASSIVE fan of the Home Schooling segment. Whoever cooked up that idea needs a raise! Such a good way to preserve the sport’s image.
Also, its controversial but I don’t think “Chesca” is that bad. At least compared to all of the other presenters. They all look like its not something they’re really interested in, that is, horseracing.
I wish we had more ex-jockeys on sometimes, I think they would inject some interest.

There’s some really good stories on this thread! Thanks for sharing, I wanted to see if anyone else had their favourite upset too.
Usually the favourite or a shorter price wins, but its so interesting when a bigger price does too :)

Not too fond of those fences at Southwell and Taunton… they look pretty stiff and must be rough for the horse.
