"Only look at the colours as the horses are going to post".

    Hmmn, it now becomes clear.

Mike is my least favourite commentator, as time and again, he gives me the impression that he will talk about anything during a race bar naming the horses’ positions.

In a 12-16 runner field, he rarely gets past the first hald dozen, before merely repeating the same names moments later.

I would prefer if he put more effort into race preparation.

With racing non existent in the North, I spent most of my leisure time over the festive period by reading ‘Lucky Break’ (I’m a slow reader!).
The book has had the opposite effect on me, TAPK. I quite admired Nicholls, but found him guilty of double standards throughout. I now have my reservations.
He was very annoyed with the subsequent form of Grade 1 hurdler Garruth when paying £180+k to the Easterbys (‘will not deal with them again’) yet had no qualms when selling Valley Henry (‘passed his best’) for a similar sum to Wylie.
Again, he was furious when McCoy jumped off an intended ride for him in his early training career, but later went after Fitzgerald to forsake a Charlie Mann horse for him.
More worryingly, I’m not convinced as to the reasons – other than apparent jealousy – why he has it in for Martin Pipe. In particular the printing of an extract from a letter Paul received (could’ve been from anybody) depicting Pipe in distasteful terms. Paul’s view of Martin Pipe commences from the inside of the dust cover, and permeates several chapters. Funny thing is, I believe he has toned down his opinions.
All this from our top trainer???

Still, I’d recommend the book. :D

Fist, I found your summary of selected Scottish trainers from the last 30 years or so (!) very interesting. This shared my own thoughts on a couple from the 70s & 80s, and got me pondering.

What do you think of the current group, the’re mostly NH trainers, with a few dual purpose? I’d be interested on your (or anyone else’s) opinion on :
Len Lungo, Lucinda Russell, the Normiles, Ewart, Goldie, both Whillans, Willie Amos (you’ve already covered Peter Monteith & Semple), etc.

    Pretty desperate, isn’t it?

I’d guess that they’ve used the old "V-model", or "waterfall", development methodology which can sometimes lead to unpleasant surprises at the last moment – like not having enough, or powerful enough, servers and similar "environmental" oversights.

I dunno….seems to me like they have used that new fangled development method Fragile, sorry I mean Agile. Start off with a basic idea, then repeat development & test ad infinitum. "What’s that? You want to implement? ‘Course you can – here’s what we’ve got. We’ll keep on going, but you can give your customers this for now"

Big mistake when the new is nowhere as accessible, reliable and, er well, good as the old.

Yeah, and I cant get passed the log in either!!

Harry Flashman took a hefty fall, but did get to his feet (though not seen on TV). He suffered a puncture cut where hit by the hurdle, but this is mainly superficial. He is fine, and hopefully will win a 3m event before the end of the season, as he may have scraped into a place on this occasion.

    The Wedding Present – ‘Sticky’

Gedge has reformed his band – they’ve released so many albums that I didn’t have any – and I’m picking thru their back catalogue.

Interstate5 is a great new single with an album to follow in the New Year – anyone catch their short set on the Peel Tribute on R1 last Thursday?<br>Suddenly 2005 seems brighter!
