It certainly has happened in Football…despite aquitals
At my club, a goalkeeper almost certainly threw a match (had connections with some of the previously accused in the game too) and was virtually sacked because of it…
Cannot say more…
Racing is probably better than it has been because of scrutiny
But what about Rugby? Last weekend?
Dessie is the best chaser i have seen…
Too much emphasis is placed on the Gold Cup anyway, but DO won everywhere and (unlike Best Mate of course) was campaigned fearlessly
Arkle may not have existed. There cannot be anyone aorund today who is compus mentis has a clear memory of that long ago and those black and white films could be anything
Legislation doesnt stop at any level because there are "bigger issues"
The first obviously…
My point was that it is not a class issue in the way most assume it is. The sport (or whatever it is) has survived BECAUSE it was the preserve of the supposed ruling classes
And so you think that you have to be New Labour to oppose hunting? In that case "New Labour" should be receiving 80% of the vote next time around….
Steve
Fair point…and one of the problems is knowing when to draw the line. How about Rats?
I dostrongly disagree with hunting of genuinely wild birds
But its the nasty chase and ripping apart by a pack which is vile. Back to my point about setting a bulls horns alight…(yes that does happen)
I dont get the point about the Hounds at all…
Well, not exclusively working class im sure…
But tell me what the difference is? Killing animals for sport…one way or another…is not on
In fact I belive Dog and Cock fighting is more legitimate given that the particpants are purely berd for the purpose. Foxes are wild and although we are always told what "vermin" they are, they have the right to exist…
Personally they can ruin as many farmers as they like. I wish the foxes were big enough to eat the farmers direct (GM anyone?) cos that would save the rest of the country A LOT OF TAXES TO SUBSIDISE THE WHINGING SROUNGING b*****d
S  <br>Missing the point Grass…
Its gaining "pleasure" from killing animals thats repulsive. Rather like some might like to take seats at an abatoir or spend time hanging around a hospice…
Its rubbish to say that you almost have to be vegan to be against hunting.
last week i saw a video of a bull with its horns set alight in spain for "entertainment". Do I ahve to be vegan to be repulsed by that?
And yes, Fox Hunting is a class issue…agreed
If it was a working class pursuit it would have been banned years ago along with dog fighting and cock fighting. And at least in those games the animals are bred for the purpose.
A good read… passed a boring office morning nicely
:)
And perhaps it would also be worth reflecting on more liberal laws under labour such as Sunday activity, censorship and licencing hours?
No tax on betting… :)
and bloody great ugly stupid casinos….
TDK
theres a massive difference between a "sport" where the intention is to kill an one where the intention is to race
Admittedly i never thought i would see a smoking ban in pubs ( ) but the i do not beilive that a ban on fox hunting is the thin end of any wedge…for one thing, its is an activity dislikedby the majority whereas racing is simply ignored by the majority…
Agree with alot of the previous, but one thing country people get in a muddle over is that because many "townies" like the countryside, they automatically like the ways, prejudices and personalities of the people that live there
WRONG:angry:
How can it be ruled out by "various courts"?
Willof Parliament is end of story
Maybe true about the Jockeys, but cant say thats something that bothers me much
About right…
no value there! :o
Bit late to this and couldnt get to see the race:angry:
But Azery is simply a beautiful chaser and its worth remebering atht connections belive he needs some "getting ready"
I belive that Moscow Flyer could perhaps move up to a crack at the King George. Love to see him win that, but at 10 knocking 11, I have to fancy Azery to go past him
One or two lovely chasers coming through at the moment. That french four year old looks awesome too
I actually went to the Countryside Day (I nealy fruedian miseplt that) at Cheltenham 3 years ago with a friend whos wife hunts…
I was a little suprised at the apathy of the much of the audience to the drivel being poured out…
They just wanted to see the racing :cheesy:
Adrian
I would guess that that is because Tennis and Rugby do not latch themselves onto supposedly related "activities" which many find offensive
Its rather as if Football latched itself onto hooliganism..:o
Ruck Day down at Stamford bridge which half time demonstrations of well organised kickings
think im exaggerating?
Doubt it…
I was at Edgbaston…
Freezing:o
But wonderful..worth the drive from the smoke
