I was told years ago that as a punter never to feel sorry for an alcoholic,it could take him 20 or 30 years to ruin his life,a punter can ruin his in an afternoon.
I hope I have learned from the numerous mistakes I have made over the years.

Now we have a Gambling Commision bookies have to be careful about admitting having inside imformation.A bet should be fair for both parties.Years ago they could brag about moles ect, they have to be a bit more discreet now.

In the 12.25 at Musselburgh King’s Envoy had to carry 10.00 less his riders claim. If there was no minimium to carry he would be on 8.11 less the claim,so he was running with 17lb more than the handicapper has given him.

The Tote wanted to reduce the takeout on some bets recently. The bookies told them they were not taking a smaller commision. This will keep the tote uncompetitive for most bets.
Back a losing horse on Betfair for £100,the 2% layer gets £98 and Betfair gets £2.
Back a losing £100 tote bet through Betfair and I would guess the split would be £92 Tote £8 Betfair. This is why betfair are pushing Tote bets.

I went racing for about 25 years, the game has changed so much that I only go now when on holiday. The £50 or £100 punter is so much better catered for on Betfair. The cream of the on course books will survive because speed of thought ,mental arithmatic skills, and anticipation, are still valuable assets to have on course. Some of the others will be hoping for more Girls Aloud nights for some mug money.
