Sad to hear that he’d died, but the really personal tribute to him from the stud owner is just lovely. He clearly loved Alflora (Alfie) very much and it sounds like the horse couldn’t have had a better life.

And again another terribly sad story – this was his second race, record was P/U (50-1) and in this race P/U (100-1). Only 5 years old, didn’t win a penny. Maybe not destined to be a racehorse. Very sad to see him declared as a non runner in a race the next day.

How terribly sad this is – he was only 6 and his record is 7th, 8th, P/U, fell (fatally). Didn’t win a penny and his SP in this race was 200-1. Maybe could have had a better career doing something else. Poor soul.

My apologies. I’m normally meticulous about this sort of thing, because it matters to me. I was quite upset about this horse (who I knew nothing about) because her death just seemed such a sad waste. She mustn’t have had a clue what was going on.

Absolutely heartbreaking. Backed him today, as I always do. He’s just been so unlucky. Can hardly bear to watch this lately.

So very upset about this, I can’t watch jumping at Southwell. I knew Robbie was running today and looked to see how he’d done as soon as I got in. Devastated to see the result. Only 7 years old and has done best of the Fierro horses since the very game Just Beth. Bred, owned and trained by them and they don’t have many horses. Can’t begin to imagine how they must feel.

Really saddened to hear that he died. Was so hoping he’d be saved.

I don’t know I didn’t see it. Can hardly bear to watch after Cheltenham and have been half watching/listening in a cowardly kind of way. I used the words the presenter used when giving the news.

I don’t know this horse either but sad to hear that he’s died. And awful that there was two deaths at the same meeting.

Sad to hear this – just shows it doesn’t have to be on a racecourse.

I didn’t know this horse, but it’s nice to know he was loved.

This was confirmed by Lydia. There seems to have been some particularly horrible falls this week. I’m struggling to watch it and although there have been a couple of lovely moments, I’m not enjoying it.

This is horrible. Can we call a halt to it please?

This isn’t even mentioned in the RP, apart from the standard ‘fatally injured’ in the results section. Even that calls him ‘lazy’ and mentions that his jumping was less than good. Comes across as quite heartless.

As far as I’ve noticed in the past, Paddy Brennan is one of the jockeys who tries to do his best for the horse – I’ve seen several instances where he’s tried to help a stricken horse. Thankfully I didn’t see this but, given his previous behaviour, would have been surprised if he didn’t try to help Marden Court.

Oh my word. I don’t know what to say. Other than – as you said – he was loved at the end. He was unlucky (the number of owners and trainers he had in just two years is sickening) in some respects, but lucky in others. In that he had people who cared about him at the end and that he could have ended up in a much worse situation. He is remembered if it’s any consolation at all – not just by me – my partner knew him immediately I said his name. And if we do, others will. There’s horses I loved who have just disappeared and I would love to know how they are, or how they ended – Benbyas, Jinxy Jack, Almushtarak – lots of others. Like you we try to help – we’re not rich, but we sponsor ex racehorses, donate to horse charities etc – most people can do this. Try to minimise the heartbreak.
You’re an admirable person and tried your best and you’ve done what you wanted to do – you’ve brought his name into the spotlight.
