Pulled up in the 1.45 at Aintree today and sadly reported to have died. R.I.P.
April 10, 2016 at 08:44 #1241886Real shame. Kings Palace was such a classy horse at his best, but did not seem at all happy this season.
RIP
April 10, 2016 at 09:26 #1241905What awful news,I was at Aintree yesterday and saw him pulled up mid way down the back streight and when the screens went up I feared the worst.
But he must have some how got loose because he ended up right in the top corner of the course behind the 2m1f start where the coaches park!April 10, 2016 at 10:50 #1241933Really saddened to hear that he died. Was so hoping he’d be saved.
April 11, 2016 at 11:26 #1242032I was there too, high up in the Lord Sefton stand so I had a good view of things below … it was abit of a mystery as one minute he was pulled up, dismounted and stood with his ears pricked (not looking particularly troubled), then the screens went up … I turned away … when I looked again moments later there was no sign of anything – no activity there at all. Tom Scudamore came back in a car. The connections were being comforted by the Pipes in the post race area … when TS got to them he seemed quite upset/agitated and pointed to the course … my understanding is he had damaged a tendon badly … RIP Kings Palace – you looked a lovely horse and you obviously had talent.
April 11, 2016 at 22:22 #1242108Watching the Dark Horse film Saturday night about Dream Alliance, it made me wonder how many horses who have tendon injuries could actually be saved. When Dream Alliance cut into his tendon in a race the vet said he would never race again, the owners a syndicate of 16 working class people from a village in Wales refused to let him be put down and raised the money for Stem Cell surgery to be performed. It was 16 months before Dream Alliance was declared fit to race again and went on to win the Welsh Grand National before being retired after breaking a blood vessel in the Grand National.
RIP Kings Palace :(
I’m sure connections thought long and hard before making the decision, but wonder if it might have been possible with time and this type of surgery to have saved him.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 13, 2016 at 11:09 #1242238A lot depends on which tendon is injured and how badly. If it is a severed tendon the prognosis is not good at all.
