I could be wrong but I suspect Kevin will have been very well remunerated for his time and will have few regrets about accepting the job, as would Rossa before him. Doubt they will many problems getting a replacement if they want one.
September 11, 2023 at 18:51 #1662688I’m sure there is more to it than the one ride but the way the owner has conducted himself shows a lack of moral intelligence. Stott will move on and be successful of that we have no doubt.
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
September 11, 2023 at 19:09 #1662691Just like any other job, don’t perform well and you may be sacked, that’s life. However, slagging him off on TV and sacking him by text is disgraceful, cowardly and quite simply rude.
Hiring and firing is part of being an owner, if he is not prepared to do it in a respectful manner, maybe ownership isn’t for him.
September 11, 2023 at 19:20 #1662693Stott had a great start to the season
It was almost like all of AMO racing had peaked at the same time. Were never going to keep that strike rate going were they. The owner is quoted as saying he’ll be leaving it up to the trainers to pick the best available at the time now. So it doesn’t look like he will using a retainer in the near future

September 11, 2023 at 19:43 #1662698It is worth listening to the Nick Luck podcast. It gets quite spicy.
Joorabchian took exception to Luck’s suggestion that he has a difficult relationship with jockeys and demanded to know who he had fallen out with. Luck could have said “The jockey you have just fired by text message” but seemed to back off.
Joorabchian went out of his way to praise Stott and said he did a great job. Which begs the question why he has been fired. He made some vague comments about issues not in the public domain.
It would have been better if a journalist like Lydia Hislop had done the interview. Or Dave Yates, Luck’s guest on the podcast. Luck is a lightweight and did not really stand his ground when challenged.
September 11, 2023 at 20:05 #1662699Kia offers a 7 year guarantee. I’d sue.
September 11, 2023 at 20:22 #1662702Too right Joe – I bought a Kia Joorabchian, expensive but it proved unreliable, wouldn’t always start, and it’s on a third steering wheel already.
I’ve tried every garage in town, but none of them seem to be able to make it run smoothly. Makes a lot of noise though, but that might just be a dodgy exhaust.
September 11, 2023 at 20:31 #1662705I honestly don’t get the outrage.
Racing is full of people – especially jockeys – so desperate to make money they take any amount of public humiliation just to keep getting rides and they will ride for literally anyone with money.
Look at Frankie Dettori – anyone with any self respect would have never ridden for Gosden again after the public slating he was given over Stradavarius.
But money, not dignity, is clearly Dettori’s God and he’s hardly alone in that.
Never mind the winners he’s ridden for him and money he’s earned since – he needs neither.
Stott must have known exactly what he was getting into riding for a bloke like the one who sacked him this morning, but he did it, anyway.
For money.
And many trainers are the same with owners.
“No, I don’t want to train/ride your horses because tbh you seem like a bit of a tool to me.”
Said no trainer or jockey EVER.
That’s the game racing is.
That’s why I love racing, NOT the people in racing.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"September 11, 2023 at 20:41 #1662706Not sure I’d describe it as outrage, I’m not outraged and certainly not surprised. It is the manner in which he was removed from his employment.
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
September 11, 2023 at 20:43 #1662707Ian, I think Sir Henry and Sir Michael were/are a bit different. They wouldn’t fit into that category, imo.
September 11, 2023 at 20:47 #1662708The sad truth is that Amo can do pretty much what they wish, and be as classless as they like, while they have the money to splash around. We might not like it, and it may not be the wisest long-term strategy, but it’s the way of the world.
I am sure Stott had a good idea of what he was getting into. In the cutthroat world of elite sport they won’t struggle to find a replacement for him.
September 11, 2023 at 21:07 #1662710How many multiple three year old winners do they have this season?
September 11, 2023 at 21:10 #1662711Could anyone mathematically minded estimate the number of lengths Stott lost by going three wide for the guts of that two furlong dipping turn? Supremely over confident ride judged no doubt as supremely incompetent by the owner and in the context of the prestige of the occasion probably viewed by him as being negligent. Stott had just ridden the course twice already that afternoon afterall!
September 11, 2023 at 21:18 #1662712Ruby- do you honestly believe that Cecil, Stoute and others are/were oblivious to the human rights abuses perpetrated in the countries which many of their leading owners were helping to run?
I doubt that they are/were that stupid or naive.
September 11, 2023 at 21:20 #1662713Any jockey cocking up on my horse “Quite Unique” gets sacked before they get dismounted
I’m not hiding behind a text message… what text messages are free these days… Get inBlackbeard to conquer the World
September 11, 2023 at 21:25 #1662714Of course they weren’t, Glad. They also took whatever they could, only the times were different. No social media, less coverage, less accusations.
September 11, 2023 at 21:29 #1662716“I honestly don’t get the outrage.”
It is only because of the owner’s public comments on RTE and then dismissing Stott by text message. If he had just had a quiet word with him after the race and then had a face to face meeting the day after to tell him his services were no longer required, then I doubt anyone would have had any criticism.
