My board of management decided it would be the perfect time for an update… I did try and explain that it was the firsy day of Ascot and I could do with moving the meeting but alas they were not sympathetic to my plight…. I don’t have sky plus either..
Feckers!!
June 16, 2008 at 12:52 #168535I hear that bird flu can come on very quickly and a short period (five days or thereabouts) in quarantine is advised.
June 16, 2008 at 14:37 #168556I quite fancy Tariq as well
Banker for the week is Johnny Murtagh to be top jockey at 6/4 (Corals)
June 17, 2008 at 05:10 #168652How about My Boy Charlie, Henry and Marmalade.
June 17, 2008 at 10:59 #168705No certs as there is no such thing, but will be looking to oppose 2 of O’Brien’s hotshots, Yeats and Duke of Marmelade. Think Yeats is vunerable as he gets older and maybe now Geordieland has finally got his head in front, he could well go on from there, also feel that Coastal Path has to be respected. As for Duke of Marmelade, while he’s won 2 group 1s this season so far, the form isn’t that rock solid and that something like Phoenix Tower could upset him if right on the day.
June 17, 2008 at 11:32 #168713I’d go for Yeats.
I’m sure he will be opposed on the day but its all looking reminiscent of when Inglis Drever won his third Long Walk Hurdle to me – too much said about his age, and the layers thinking that all the rest should have caught him up by now; but he’s an exceptional horse over this distance, has won it twice before and beat everything comfortably (other than Coastal Path), and has been aimed at it again all year.
June 17, 2008 at 11:33 #168715Paddy Power go 9/1 Henry, Duke Of Mar and Yeats not bad i think??
June 17, 2008 at 12:56 #168738anythings possible henry gogo!
June 17, 2008 at 15:24 #168786"However, the same trainer will run Equisio in the Kings Stand. Regarded as the best sprinter in Spain, he was a fine second to Marchand D’or in France recently, and I’ll have him down as my each way good thing."
A big well done to Darren (Anglo German) for that one (shame I didn’t follow the advice…).
June 17, 2008 at 15:31 #168790Well done Darren
June 17, 2008 at 18:45 #168863Henry was too easy to pick so I don’t know about Dead Cert but one horse who really interests me is John Gosden’s Pipedreamer who I have been waiting to back in this race. This has apparantly been his target since day one.
He ran very well last time out on soft ground and with the ground riding much faster he should be seen at his very best after two runs.
He absolutely trotted up in the Cambridgeshire and is better than his bare form of this season.
I’m on EW………….so shoot mne if I’m wrong
June 17, 2008 at 18:48 #168865Good shout Darren. Great to see another nation joining the Group1 club. Very educational from a formbook point of view as well.
June 17, 2008 at 19:39 #168879Thanks for the kind comments all – very much appreciated. Unfortunately, you may have seen I made a bit of an error here:
However, the same trainer will run Equisio in the Kings Stand.
Well, he actually ran Equiano!!! Equisio was a German spinter (by Efisio) a few years ago, and to make it worse, I also put ‘Equisio’ on my two ante post bets!!! Yep, you’ve guessed it – they’re not paying out!!! I did back it today (and I put the right name!), so I’ve a got a few pennies, but the moral of this story is when betting ante post – GET THE NAME OF THE BL**DY HORSE RIGHT!!!

Darren ~ let me know who you bet with. Surely if you were quoted a price then it ascertains which horse you meant while no other horse has a similar name in the race. I woulds have thought that any reputable company would honour your bet.

It’s a local independant bookmaker here in Leicester, and a friend of mine is a district manager for them. I called him up at lunchtime, and he told me what to do to get my cash. I’ve just returned from there now, and it turns out that the cashier I saw yesterday shouldn’t have done what she did – basically, she put the bet up to the scanner, and it returned ‘loser’, but she didn’t check it properly. It turns out that, as at no time was a horse called ‘Equisio’ quoted for the Kings Stand Stakes, and also that Equiano was 66-1 when I placed the bet, that there really wasn’t a problem collecting in the end. It basically looks like I got a grumpy cashier who looked at my slip, said ‘Not won’, and then sent me on my way!! FYI, I also put ‘Equisio’ on my 33-1 bet with Totesport, however I go in there quite a bit, and the staff knew I’d backed ‘the Spanish horse’ (as in true Darren style, I’d been waffling on about it for 3 weeks!!), so they weren’t an issue – altough the manager there couldn’t resist, and asked me if I’d backed Henrythealligator! Just that I don’t usually go to the place I put the 66-1 bet on, but alls well that ends well!!

I have plenty of respect for south central but love baycat and he owes me nothing so he is my ascot banker.
